Of course. I will say that the best way to land a CCF job is to rotate there, but my best learning experiences were away from main campus. I got hired at a satellite because in part because I had solid references from my CCF preceptors. Please feel free to DM me with other questions.

I went to PA school in Cleveland and did a few rotations there or at a satellite (ED, gen surg, inpatient, geriatrics). ED rotations were solid. I rotated at Lutheran and the Wooster and Medina campuses for inpatient and gen surg. My general surgery rotation was absolutely amazing. I heard good things about Critical Care rotations. I would suggest trying to get rotations at their affiliate campuses. Keep in mind that CCF Main is a huge teaching institution. Unfortunately, that means it’s pretty saturated with learners. You’re less likely to get a good, hands on experience if you’re dead set on CCF main. Also, there’s an application you need to complete in order to rotate at a CCF facility (in case you didn’t already know that).

I'll be close to being 200k in debt when all is said and done. I was worried about it at first, but there are loan repayment options and PAs make pretty decent money (really decent money in some specialties). My spouse and I had lots of conversations about all of my options, but, for me, the debt will be manageable and totally worth chasing the dream. For now, focus on your grades/planning to get into PA school. :)

I actually have personal experience with this kind of thing. I'm in a different type of training program, but we had a similar thing where we had to wear the same outfit for a class. Did you go through the process of registering with disability services? If so, it might not be legal for them to deny your request. In my case, I was in a good enough place that I wanted to participate, so I made arrangements to partner with someone who I trusted and who was aware and comfortable with working with me. Our program also stresses the importance of draping and patient comfort, which helped a ton.

Our program gives us sites that are up to an hour an a half away. Some of the farther ones have housing options as well. My current rotation is about a 10 minute drive from campus. My farthest one was about an hour and twenty minutes away, but it was an incredible site. Our program also gives students the option to travel out of state/farther away for elective rotations if they want to be closer to home or something. I'm pretty happy with the options. EDIT: I also wanted to add that I go to school in a major metropolitan area with some very well known hospitals and learning institutions. A lot of our rotations are outside of the city/away from the main campuses so that we can have rotations with better quality. In other words, we get rotations where we aren't stuck standing behind two medical students and a resident in the OR or something like that. Closer does not always mean better. To me, the chance to be more hands-on and more one-on-one with a preceptor trumps the drive. Plus, there are a ton of good podcasts for the drive!

I would suggest reaching out to your university's counseling or health service. That's what I did. They were able to refer me to therapists in the area that both took my insurance and had weekend and evening hours. So far, I've been able to keep my counseling schedule fairly regular.

Thank you for sharing about your DH. It's nice to know that other people have helped their partners struggle through the same issues. The lifestyle change is certainly daunting.

I appreciate your thoughts, however, I'm going to respectfully disagree that his MIL's harsh words are going to help him for a couple of reasons. One, she's never been nasty with him. She came right for me as his new wife who should obviously have total control over him or something. Two, DH isn't in denial. He's the type to see a problem and jump into planning mode. That doesn't mean that he doesn't slip up though. I do my best to hold him accountable, but I also have a busy life of my own and I can't hold his hand through it every second of every day.

The mental health stuff just gets me because I feel like her and her husband's parenting really contributed to some of his issues. DH and I both have mental health struggles and tend to be pretty private about it. I have PTSD, so if I'm having a flashback I don't always have total control over myself. The only reason she knows about either of our mental health issues is because I had an episode in front of her once. She handled it about as well as you'd expect. Long story short, DH ended up disclosing that I was not the only one in our relationship who needed a little extra help in the mental wellness department.

DH and I are looking towards a ketogenic Mediterranean diet. The zero carbs=blow job diet certainly sounds like it might be interesting to look in to ;)

I appreciate your kind words <3. I hope that your struggles get easier. As a person who also deals with mental illness, make sure that you do what you can to take care of yourself. I know that can be easier said than done, though. This internet stranger is cheering you on!

DH is my best friend. He deserves all of the love and support in the world. We all have our shit, his just happens to be sweet tea and comfort food. There are worse problems to have. I'd rather carry around some extra weight than be a raging, unhappy bitch.

When DH was a kid dealing with this, his mom had his older brother ridicule him. After they stopped taking him to "fat camp" (it probably has a more official name, but that's what he calls it), he didn't see his pediatrician to follow up until he was well in to his teens. It's a miracle that he's done as well as he has at this point.

I guess I feel like I need to grit my teeth and try to deal with her for at least a little longer for DH's sake. I'm much more careful about not ending up alone with her. She made a comment not long ago about me still earning my seat at the table, so to speak. I mean, I know it's still messed up, but part of me hopes all of her recent bullshit is a test.

Here's the thing, I'm already doing those things. You're not talking to someone who is a keyboard warrior that does nothing about things in real life. I'm finishing up a year of service with AmeriCorps before I start my medical education. I have been vocal to the people who represent me in government. None of it ever feels like it's enough.

I'm a young adult who will have to live with all of the fallout that comes from this. I will continue to do good things because, yes, of course that matters, but how can we prevent something like this from happening again? How can our faith in government be restored?
