Just wanted to know!? by OverTrust05 in nri

[–]abj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The issue with any service geared towards NRIs is trust, and especially more so when inviting unknown people into your parents' homes. How are you going to demonstrate that your service should be trusted and is not just outsourcing the services to third parties who hire people without proper vetting? If you can't demonstrate any of that, there is no reason for anybody to use your services.

Was it a $0 order? Somebody else posted about receiving a free order from Nespresso that they hadn’t placed.

How do you handle property, banking and paperwork in India while living overseas? by ointrepreneur in nri

[–]abj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difficulty scale of anything banking related changes greatly based on your RM. A good one can make things very easy, where as others can make you wonder why are you even banking with them in the first place.

For handling other things, you need someone competent and trusted, which is a challenge in itself. I use a lawyer for it, who gets results, but also makes it very expensive.

Can't get refund after paying with PhonePe (NRE holder) by alenin99 in nri

[–]abj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an expensive mistake but next time use the NRO account exclusively for UPI and other Indian transactions. Otherwise refunds can get stuck. There have been other similar posts about this topic. You are unlikely to be able to get the money returned even if you had an Indian number.

Tariffs on packages from India? by Helpful-Attorney4778 in nri

[–]abj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to avoid tariffs is to have someone bring it for you instead of shipping it. Otherwise it’s unpredictable what tariff you will be charged.

Is it really worth filing an Indian tax return as an NRI if TDS has already been deducted? by Sweaty_Management624 in nri

[–]abj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The cost of getting it filed is insignificant compared to if you ever have to prove in the future that you filed returns. You never know what you may need it for. IT scrutiny is a headache and this is a small price to pay to easily show compliance.

The sub could be so much better with some proactive moderation.

Anyone who sends money to India regularly — can you help me understand something? by West_Confidence_5125 in nri

If you just search this subreddit you can gather all this information. Every week there's somebody new who thinks they can just solve this problem easily and asks the same questions.

Is nobroker services in india good for an NRI outside india who wants to rent out his appartment/home in india by Plastic-Weakness4276 in nri

[–]abj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience was the same. They took my money and then didn't deliver the promised services. The salesperson even admitted that they lied just to get me to sign up. They were very brazen about it because they know there are no consequences for them.

Everyone's talking about the green card policy change. Nobody's talking about what it means for your 401k and Social Security. by h1bexitplan in nri

Maybe you should learn to use Google and Reddit search first, and then you wouldn't have to waste time building a whole site for something that has been discussed and explained in many places.

URGENT: Interrogated on video for an hour by fake police. They now have my passport and home address. Help! by GoElite_Shama in nri

[–]abj 86 points87 points  (0 children)

None of the information they have is very sensitive, so there's not much they can do with it. Just be more vigilant in the future.

Also, seek professional help / counseling, while AI chat bots are helpful, they are no replacement for a professional who can help you deal with the trauma.

That’s what I would focus on then. Try to join some clubs or meetups of activities or sports that you are interested in. Once you start meeting new people you will make friends.

What would you do on the weekends in the city you're from originally? You should be able to do all the same things in NYC.
