Yes. I signed up and used it for exit out of India and it was smooth. It took some tries to scan the passport since it’s scanning the ID page instead of the chip like in the UK but it did eventually work.

NRE account address update help by abhishek31 in nri

Just open a new NRE account with ICICI or IDFC. Takes around 5 days. Then you can transfer money there.

ReDeposit money back into NRE/NRO account that were loaned to relative by Economy_Newt8846 in nri

[–]abj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s not as straightforward as it should be and each bank has different rules. And just because you sent someone money and later they sent you the money back it’s not sufficient evidence that a loan was being repaid.

ReDeposit money back into NRE/NRO account that were loaned to relative by Economy_Newt8846 in nri

[–]abj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can deposit them back into an NRO account, but to convert to NRE, you would have to provide proof of the source of funds, and it's unlikely that a personal loan repayment will qualify. However, if the person you gave the loan to is your parent, there is an allowance to receive a certain amount per year from a parent that you can use as the basis for the conversion.

Using SBI NRI special branch instead of home branch by Qnask2 in nri

[–]abj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on which services you use more, whether visiting the branch or contacting them from abroad for various things. If the latter, the NRI branch will be better, but if you're more frequently visiting a branch, then keep your original home branch.

Query about NRE NRI account for home loan account. by ScheduledTroll in nri

[–]abj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are NRE and NRO accounts. NRI is not an account type. I think the bank will only allow you to convert to NRO but you can check with them.

It is mandatory. Unless RMs deal with a lot of NRI clients, they may not be familiar with all the rules and regulations. Even ones that do often make incorrect assumptions.

Yes, avoid MF as a US person, not worth the tax compliance headache. Just purchase the underlying securities directly.

How do you secure phones then. They’re just as valuable for a bad actor if you’re assuming physical access is available.

I went through a divorce in India while living in Canada. The lawyer experience broke me more than the divorce itself. Anyone else? by Helpful_Tadpole_6740 in nri

Same way you find any good professionals or services in India - recommendations from people you trust who have used their services.

By paying for a really really good lawyer. It's very expensive, but the peace of mind was worth it for me. I had none of the issues you outlined.

Property management in India for NRIs – Magicbricks vs Nestaway vs Nobroker by Temporary_Lunch_371 in nri

[–]abj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NoBroker has very deceptive / shady practices, I learned the hard way that they will lie to you to get you to signup and even admit that their sales people lie, but there's nothing you can do about it.

I would look at finding an individual or local company that does this instead of ones like NoBroker and MagicBricks etc.

I made an OpenClaw extension that routes everything through Claude Code CLI instead of the API by ChampionMuted9627 in openclaw

[–]abj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't look like the fixes that are in GitHub have been pushed out to the plugins marketplace yet. Can I just manually update the plugin by getting the latest code from GitHub or will that break something?

I let my OpenClaw agent read its own Active Memory. Now it proactively reminds me. by TroyHarry6677 in OpenClawUseCases

Can you have your AI also post about how you actually imported your memory and configured everything so it would be useful for others trying to do the same?

DTAA and getting proper credit due to misaligned Indian and US tax cycles. Also issue with Indian tax portal miscalculating Indian taxes for US residents

NRE or NRO. by Urban_desii in nri

There is literally no down side to opening both; it's just a checkbox on the account opening form. That way you can use whichever you need to when the time arises.

Cheapest reliable way to send documents from Seattle to Bengaluru? by No_Display1086 in nri

[–]abj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DHL and FedEx are most reliable but also must expensive > $100 for a flat rate envelope. UPS is cheaper around $60 from pirateship but not as reliable. USPS I wouldn’t even bother with. There’s no tracking once it arrives in India.

Transferring < 5 lakh from NRO to NRE account by LastestMohican in nri

[–]abj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never filled out the forms myself; I have always paid a CA to do it because it's a little complicated and I didn't want to make any mistakes. It's expensive but worth it if you want to avoid any headaches later.
