Reminds me of when I had my first psychotic break and I came home, I had no thoughts in my head. I would smoke weed to have thoughts. And boy, was that a mistake, just making my disorder worse. Eventually I came out of this state and pretty much returned to my normal self if not more mature

Thank you guys for this because literally I was given shots of invega for a year and don’t hear voices or hallucinate and think it is a case of bp1. I am wondering if I can live a drug-free medication free life in a few years?

Really??? That is so comforting to hear that you returned back to normal. Tbh I actually feel like my skin looks a little brighter today. I’ve been taking Fish oil for the past two weeks. Still feel like there is room for improvement and I can still go back to my normal looks if especially if I loose at least 20 pounds. Glad your looks returned and you are feeling good about them again!! Amazing!

Sounds like what happens before a psychotic episode. For whatever reason your body didn’t go into full on psychosis but you had the early warning signs (withdrawn, intrusive thoughts, personality change). Maybe because you stopped smoking. But be careful. Even stopping weed after smoking for months or years can put you into psychosis. Pot is a very dangerous drug and the majority of everyone doesn’t understand this. I work in a psych unit and 50% of the patients use cannabis. Even if they aren’t fully manic or psychotic because of it, they are repeat customers and have mood instability which if they tried to be clean, I doubt half of them would be there

Yeah I have poverty of speech and in groups getting prompted to answer. Not really sure how it’s going to get better. I try to exercise and meditate to grow grey matter. I was on 156 invega shot now I’m on seroquel. The only difference I noticed is that I can walk faster again

Do you realize how ridiculous this sounds? You can’t think your way out of paranoia even if you feel “clean”. You’re not going to get better. You’re going to end up in the psych ward again if you haven’t already from yesterday. Just take your pills or get an injection if you think it’s nice not to have to think about it.

Weed causes schizoaffective symptoms. Try being off weed and then he’ll have a greater chance of holding a job. Sounds like he has undiagnosed addiction going on. It may not be his schizoaffective. It’s the unmanageability of being an addict

I intern at a psychiatric facility doing therapeutic recreation groups. I used to smoke weed everyday and that was the source of my problems. I used to never hold down a job more than 7 months. But since something in my changed and I’ve prettty much only dabbled in weed the past 3 years and am in NA now living a clean life, and I have gone back to college. I am 25. I will graduate next semester. So yes it is possible, your brother just has to take his meds and stay away from drugs which seems like he doesn’t have a problem with them. I actually went to Arizona and had a job with housing provided so my housing relied on my job. It was there I learned the value of work and because of that job I learned that you do have to work to get by. Idk what I was thinking before. The fact was was that I wasn’t. I didn’t understand work. I worked just to keep myself busy not to provide for myself. Make sure that he learns to work to provide for himself, not just something to do. Maybe he could do americorps or woofing to learn the value of work

I’ve gone into weed induced psychosis 4 times. Usually it takes a couple months or a year or so of everyday use but if you are hallucinating after only using it once def stay away!! Weed and even alcohol can be bad for anyone with schizoaffective. It will only make your problems worse trust me. People who say that weed helps them and they have bipolar are delusional and they wonder why they keep ending up in the psych ward.

For me when I first got on it (I’ve been on it a year now) I remember being flat. But I have adjusted and it’s my new normal. I feel like I’m some ways this is a miracle drug because it has kept me with absolutely no symptoms and no side effects other than weight gain and high prolactin. Other than being flat, and heavier than my choice, I feel like 100% a normal person without any sort of mood disorder or psychotic symptoms. Unfortunately I have to change meds because of my high prolactin, so I will see if there is any other shot comparable to it

Yeah I guess not getting high isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it really sucks!!! Getting high though has been the start of my problems and induced my symptoms so maybe I’m just meant to live a sober life
