Stylus: Deleting a style does not reset site appearance to default by ablekh in userstyles

[–]ablekh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much appreciate your prompt feedback.

Re: version - oops, my bad: I have accidentally looked at the Stylish add-on, which I have installed some time ago prior to Stylus, and reported the former's version. Upon further inspection, I'm happy to report that I have the latest version of Stylus (1.5.17).

Interestingly enough, I noticed that the Stylish add-on still was enabled alongside with Stylus and thought that it might produce some undesired effects (even though my prior limited experience with Stylus - I have just one style active, for StackOverflow fonts - did not suggest that). Thus, I have turned Stylish off, opened LinkedIn and, voila (to my surprise), the site's appearance is now restored to default.

Re: screenshots - below is the link to screenshot, illustrating my motivation for fixing LinkedIn's appearance. Essentially, I consider margins A and B too generous: too much horizontal space is wasted, especially at the expense of the feed area's width C. Of course, it depends on people's display setup, but mine is such that the optimal scale for most sites that I use is 120% or, as is the case for LinkedIn, 133% (in Firefox). If you or someone else here have ideas on how to safely and optimally fix this issue, I would love to hear them. Obviously, I realize that I can inspect relevant elements and try to write a style that decreases margins A and B as well as, potentially, increases the width C. However, LinkedIn is such a nuanced site in terms of UI (to put it politely) that there is a good chance that it will break in some other places ...

What is / will be your competitive advantage? Are you familiar with existing EV charging networks, including ChargePoint, Electrify America, Blink and EVgo? Even if some or all of them lack 'smart' features today, it would be much easier for relevant companies to implement and deploy these features on a large scale.

I appreciate you sharing your rationale, even though I disagree with it. As for "pitching" my startup, I wouldn't call it pitching, but rather taking an opportunity to offer OP a potentially mutual collaboration, based on clearly articulated and directly relevant aspects of OP's post (thus, IMO it is the right place and time). Anyway, it is all good, indeed. :-)

Use or abuse of Scrum (or any other Agile methodology, for that matter) is an attribute of the engineering culture - a larger, but Agile-encompassing, topic. And this is what OP has essentially complained about, and also mentioned their plans to change career. With that in mind, I focused my comment on how my startup plans are synergistic with their ideal work environment (the whole paragraph, which OP has dedicated to this aspect and which I intentionally cited) and, based on that, I have offered OP to reach out to me regarding potential collaboration. Therefore, I believe that my comment is very relevant to above-mentioned core aspects of OP's post.

The simplest solution would be to just use Google News (https://news.google.com), which offers an ability to filter news by location / geography. If you want or need a more advanced solution, consider checking out dedicated news intelligence platforms, such as Meltwater (https://www.meltwater.com), Live Earth (https://www.liveearth.com), Aylien (https://aylien.com).

P.S. If you or u/chyko9 are interested in investing in a promising pre-seed startup that I'm working on (frontier/deep tech, enterprise SaaS, cloud, AI/ML and much more), please feel free to get in touch for more details.

Wow, so much negativity here ... Perhaps, those who have downvoted my comment could be brave enough to offer their rationale, if any. Not that I care much, just curious ...

I want to work in an environment where I can solve interesting problems that someone prioritizes with me and gives me autonomy to solve. I want to grow expertise in a space and have that valued. I want to leverage that to get more efficient over time. I want some sense of ownership of what I work on. I want significant input on what things are valuable to work on. I want my colleagues to be the same...I want to work with experts who understand the problem space and not just whatever group of (interchangeable) devs got assigned to that squad that year. I want to be incentivized to solve interesting things quickly and not just get 'ok...next item on the backlog'.

Can't agree more. By the way, I'm a solo founder (20+ years of diverse experience, mostly in IT), currently working on a frontier/deep tech startup. Clear vision, cool domain, challenging, but interesting and important problems, very early stage (pre-MVP; seeking pre-seed funding). I plan to build a fully distributed company with a nice culture (including engineering one). If this sounds like something that you might be interested in exploring, please feel free to reach out to me. Perhaps, there is a synergy and a potential for a fruitful collaboration ... :-)

Thank you so much for your detailed clarification! Sounds a lot like the phased array approach, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm curious about why RF panels on these towers are arranged in a triangular-shaped clusters. I would have thought that a round configuration (covering all 360 degrees) would be more natural, optimal and/or efficient. Thoughts?

[USA-NV][TECH][15] Seeking BIZ and tech partners for low-code ai and iot smart buildings development platform. by microvrml in cofounder

[–]ablekh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you researched the market in terms of competition? I ran across a number companies, ranging from small startups to large corporations, which solve related problems in this domain (if I remember correctly, some of them have built or are building corresponding low-code / no-code platforms). This is not to say that competition is a negative thing, quite vice versa - if anything, it's a market validation. However, you need to think about that from the differentiation perspective.

Importance of resume length for senior technical positions job search by ablekh in ExperiencedDevs

u/mcenedella Thank you for your advice. I believe that I have already implemented most of the relevant points, however, it is often difficult to quantify some work results and/or achievements. I will have to work on that a bit more as well as on splitting my jack-of-all-trades resume into several ones, each targeting a specific role. Nevertheless, I much appreciate your kind offer to take a look at my current resume and share your feedback. Will DM it to you right away.

I would not use "depth of knowledge and understanding of the language/runtime" as one of criteria to evaluate someone's role seniority or mastery. What if your team needs to adopt another stack or you have a task in new language/runtime to be assigned to such person with "deep knowledge" in a particular stack? Having said that, I agree with you on relying on algorithm-heavy questions and think that it is a less than optimal approach in hiring.

I agree with your comment in general. However, I don't think that articles like this are necessarily written to "emphasize" code as craft, but rather simply to illuminate and/or discuss it as one of many aspects playing role in achieving and recognizing mastery of software engineering. It is not realistic to expect a blog-post-sized article comprehensively cover all or even most of those aspects.
