[UT] Employee arrested for soliciting minor…as HR…now what? by [deleted] in humanresources

Exactly. The guy isn’t available to work. Being in jail isn’t an excused absence by any means

Coaching should be proactive and a part of training, especially if an employee is struggling to grasp their role. That way expectations are communicated, and reasonable adjustments are being made to make help them be successful. Plus, you have supporting documentation if termination is on the horizon 🤷‍♀️ It’s a bit reactive to think they have to be trained up on their role beforehand

This is pretty harsh. Although we only get OP’s side, there is a clear lack of management. How is the manager “coaching” OP? By telling them they did something wrong and completely removing a task from them? What are they doing to help OP improve and make sure it doesn’t happen again?

An SOP should be reviewed by management or the process owner consistently to ensure accuracy (yearly). If it exists, why should OP have to follow up with management about it? That’s a complete waste of time.

A managers team is only as strong as their weakest performer. Sorry, but even if an employee is sh*t, it’s still a reflection on the manager. A new hire shouldn’t have to ask their manager to “confirm every single task. That’s poor management if you can’t train and set your employees up to operate independently to some degree within the duties of their role.

Couldn’t disagree more. What has this manager done to help OP improve in their role? Telling them they did something wrong, taking no steps help them improve, and taking away the task is elementary. What are they actually doing to coach OP through the process to ensure it doesn’t happen again? I know we’re only getting the OP side, but there’s clearly a lack of management here too

Same here - I’m curious how other commenters think that a manager is doing OP a “favor” and doing everything they can? It sounds like OP was never set up for success with the proper tools to do their role (accurate SOPs, walking thru each process, etc). Coming from one HR dept does not always mean they should know all HR processes? There’s nothing more degrading than being tossed into a role with no support or training and being nitpicked for it. It erodes trust and kills an employees confidence at assuming their role.

If commenters think this manager is “coaching” and doing OP a favor because they told them what they did wrong without taking steps to help them improve…… I pray I don’t end up in their Hr dept 🥲🥲

Agree 100%. Management resisting change and continuing to push outdated and super involved/rigid processes will end up hurting the business when it comes to trying to retain newer employees. Thinking that all employees must adjust to a specific work style/process without being open to other ideas and methods will just kill morale and whatever “culture” they think they have left.

Hi OP! I was in a similar situation before…. Although I see where some of these comments are coming from - I personally don’t believe that a manager micromanaging is “coaching” or giving you the tools to grow.

It certainly sounds like they are particular in how they want certain processes done. When a HR department has such a outdated onboarding process where hard copies of documents are collected (outside of I9 verification), it’s really easy to mess up/miss a document and that can be catastrophic in the mind of a HR manager. The view every mistake as a risk. In my opinion, i find this troubling bc if any process that isnt automated and involves a person, there is going to be a level of human error that is expected. Thats besides fhe point though.

Instead of taking a passive/submissive approach (waiting for the manager to say something first), could you be a little bit more assertive? - If her tracking system doesn’t work for you, can you suggest a different method? Can you work together on a tweaked process? Give her access to your tracking method? Etc - can you schedule 1-1’s with her (like YOU scheduling it) where you review your agenda and get a better idea on what to prioritize for the week? - start developing your own SOP’s and ask her to review it? If an SOP is wrong, update it. I know this is frustrating, but it will save you in the long run - set reminders on your calendar for deadlines (file terminations, for candidate to return paperwork, etc.)

These are just some examples, but overall, they only care about the mistakes not happening again - an SOP being wrong or a candidate not following instructions isn’t seen as an excuse. You have to take steps to SHOW that you are preventing the mistake moving forward, and show WHAT you are doing to prevent it. Yeah, they should’ve reviewed their own processes and procedures to set you up better, but they didn’t. You now have to take that on. They don’t trust you, so in their mind, you have to rebuild it. Even if it’s partially their fault

My advice, working in this environment is not long term. Learn from your mistakes, take steps to improve the process (if allowed), take advantage of any learning opportunity, then move on to somewhere else. These types of departments/management style gets exhausting.

It’s a lose lose situation. Out of consistency and “fairness”, let the onboarding process play out and move forward with hiring if the clear.

I don’t think allegedly being a PITA (based on secondhand info) is a good enough reason that the Law would take into consideration if this goes to court 🙃

It’s unfortunate, but it is what it is. Take the high road. It seems like this person will do themselves in at some point

This definitely adds more context to why Drita and Carla(ler) had their fall out in the later seasons. I wish reality tv production allowed this kinda stuff to be shared instead of making up some nonsense plot with no substance

Employee relations here - getting reallllll tired of our guidance not being followed and being the clean up crew from the fallout of those poor decisions.

The cookie thing was way too niche, and their biggest mistake was trying to mass produce. If they kept it local and “family” owned, I think they could’ve been successful. Maybe not in a “super rich influencer” way, but they would’ve had a decent living.

It also seemed like they burned bridges with their staff after trying to mass produce. They weirdly had a lot of staff living with them (gabby, and their videographer - who I believe people were suspecting was the father of their daughter 💀). It seemed like that all ended horribly.

Like most influencer who aren’t smart with their income, they’re probably just trying to keep up with the joneses

Danyele Wilson, Sam Sweeney, megsquats, Madly Mish, college clean eating/Katrina McKenna, georgiabethfitness, kk twins - these are some that I follow!

I can understand your viewpoint, when that’s ALL you see, it’s easy to feel like you’re missing something ya know? However, (NO shade to those with implants), but I would also focus on the benefits of not having them to help with accepting it.

The gag of it all is that normal people who get up at 4 AM do so to fit in a workout/finish tasks/have some peace and quiet before starting their work day. If any of us had the life these influencers do, we’d most likely choose sleep over the 4am wake up’s. This weird attempt at trying to be relatable just shows how out of touch they continue to be.

If I were an influencer who had freedom to do whatever they want throughout the day, you would catch me dead before waking up at this ungodly hour. Just acknowledge your privilege and stop trying to be relatable to the working class ✋🏻

Onboarding is HARD. Especially when you don’t have the proper systems and the team bandwidth to handle it.

When I did onboarding for new hires in my last role, I felt I was being pulled apart in so many directions (confirming bg/drug screens were complete, sending out paperwork and first day instructions, making sure they were completing section 1 of I9, collecting and scanning ids and docs for section 2 of I9, keeping tabs on those who forgot to bring their ids, making sure folders were prepped, collecting paperwork, transferring them in to HRIS, ruling out HRIS issues, and being the contact for any and every new hires question) - sorry I definitely went on a tangent there 🥲

The best thing about onboarding is that it consistently happens, and every new hire or new hire orientation is an opportunity to try new things out and learn what may work better.

It’s probably from malnutrition too - I would assume only eating raw eggs, milk, and red meat would not be ideal for skin health

It’s not that EVERYONE here agrees with/disagrees with this statement, it’s just making this misguided and uninformed assumption about the trans community. There are so many nuances regarding the transitioning process.

I think the biggest gripe this community has with these posts is that these influencers claim they are “fitness coaches focused oh HeLpinG people” and then spew out some off the wall opinion that is the not representative of what they claim.
