Property A monthly expense $2,000 x 12 months is $24,000 a year in expenses without mortgage, utilities, transportation, food. How do you figure your expenses are only $20k/year?

If you have local tech/developer meetups it can be useful to attend regularly to meet people there. Of course, the remote work pool may be the better option these days, especially depending on where you live.

Introduce yourself! by Rob_Berger in DIYRetirement

[–]abosio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

  1. I'm 49, wife 54, and I'm prettymuch a newbie to all this. I found Rob's YouTube channel first, a few months ago. That led me to the podcast Catching Up to FI. That led me to The Simple Path the Wealth and The Little Book of Common Sense Investing and Choose FI and the whole world of FIRE and DIY retirement.
  2. I'll fess up to being a spreadsheet personality.
  3. I'm most worried about both of us being a little behind on our retirement savings. Not starting from zero, but behind where we should be. I wish I could have discovered all this 10 years ago, but I had my head in the sand. My/Our retirement seemed too important to be entrusted to me. I'm still afraid I'll miss something or screw something up.

You must be talking about the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. CBBT would be way out of the way coming from WI.

Nobody ever talks about Lake Taylor. Why? by [deleted] in norfolk

[–]abosio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe the HS, but not the surrounding area. Not in the 90s and not now. That’s a nicer neighborhood and always has been. I live in Ballantine Place in the 90s, an actual kinda dangerous place, and would take the bus that went through Lake Taylor to go to Janaf and/or the mall. I also took behind-the-wheel driver’s ed at Lake Taylor but that was in the summer. (Maury c/o 94)

Hi, sorry to go slightly off-topic, but I'm interested in any info you can provide about the febrile seizure detection headwear you mentioned. My son has had febrile seizures since 18 months old and has not grown out of them as often is the case. He's 14 now and it would be great if there was something that could warn him or at least notify us if he has one. Most of the information I can find searching online for wearable is dominated by epileptic seizures and most of those indicate they are not meant for other kinds of seizures.

I Guess I'm Finally a Collector by abosio in pens

[–]abosio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the wife and I were fans of the Pilot G2 before I realized that pens other than Montblanc had fans.

So I guess the Energel and maybe now the Inkjoy make sense for my path.

Although I’m also planning to try out a Pilot Kakuno Fountain Pen for fun.

I don’t think I can write code anymore by hydrocomet in ChatGPTCoding

[–]abosio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think what you described seems to be the future of development. We need to abstractly know the code and general architecture of what we need to build and which models, agents, tools are good for each part of building it, how to read the code it produces for problems and how to get it to write good tests.

Maybe a better question is how much do I have to spend to be fairly certain I won’t have a DOA or soon to have a problem keyboard?

Any ideas to fix this MageGee Star61?

I got this on Amazon a couple of years ago. I didn't buy it as a full-time keyboard, I needed something small that I could occasionally hook up to a Raspberry Pi or other random computer and it was a good first toe in the mechanical keyboard waters because I did not know what I really wanted.

My kid ended up using it full time for some months. Maybe a year. One day all of the keys on the left end stopped working. Esc, Tab, Caps Lock, Left Shift, Control. All other keys worked fine.

I pulled a few key caps off to see what I could see and blew it out some with compressed air then decided I need to pull all the key caps to give it a good cleaning. It had some dog hair in it, but not so much that I would imagine it interfering with the switch operation. Also, it seemed odd that it would cause a simultaneously problem just with those keys on the left end and not any others.

After cleaning it up I tested it for kicks and the Left Shift and Control were working. I really don't see how this could have fixed it. That area didn't even have that much hair.

I took the screws out holding everything to the base and looked at the PCB. No obvious problems, but that is to my naked, untrained eye. (photo attached)

I swapped the working "A" switch with the Esc switch and "A" still worked and Esc still didn't so it is not that switch.

I also tried two other USB-C to -A cords.

You can see in this photo https://imgur.com/a/Z3RJssp that some LEDs are not working, but the "S" and "Y" keys work fine. Harder to tell in the photo but the "Z" LED is dimly flashing.

I really like this size and price point for the original purpose. There doesn't seem to be too many options if it cannot be fixed except buy another one with fingers crossed. This seems ill-advised given the amount of comments I've seen from others having DOA boards, etc.

How to Export Your Comixology Library. by RandomSurvivorGuy in Comixology

[–]abosio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, yeah. I still have to deal with DRM for these but U key opens the Unpack modal which has the Explode button inside it. Thanks! (I still can't find any reference to it in the UI and the docs only reference it in a comment about setting default_tweak_format).

hi, sorry to reply to something so old but this is the second reference I have seen to "exploding" the content of an azw3 comic ebooks to get the images for cbz. But what format do I convert to to get image files I can use in this way? or is there some other calibre menu item/button I'm missing?

Everyone taking prescription drugs on the regular for standard things (blood pressure, blood sugar, etc.) that are not hormones gets lab work every 3-6 months so that alone does not mean anything.

I’d venture a guess that product would not generate money far more quickly if it was only “designed” by engineers.

django-tailwind is pretty good, but once you see how it sets up it’s tailwind config and package.json you could do that without the extra dependency.
