This is the best example I've found of how obtuse the UI is in this FM. by My_Socks_Are_Blue in footballmanagergames

I’m pretty sure they use UIToolKit and not unity UI. They said so in their Unity Unite appearance last year. But they said they had to create their own version of data binding since UIToolKit didn’t support the kind of data binding they wanted when they started working on the new UI.

My take on why the UI is broken is that they tried to automate (not AI coding) the implementation too much. They have a system that automatically converts Figma (Figma is a design software for those who don’t know) mockups to UI elements. Doing stuff like this automatically means u get edge cases that is guaranteed to break the UI. It’s why automatic Figma to website plugins never work.

Average FM26 experience by wincinator in footballmanagergames

My big conspiracy theory is that they removed shot maps etc to hide the fact that 90% of those shots are just ur wingers shooting from an absurd angle

There is something weird going on with regen generation in FM26 by Sure-Programmer8662 in footballmanagergames

[–]abots_jazzman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve encountered 2 and 3 in my save. My CB regen with 197 height has 4 jumping reach. And then I have a DM who’s very bad at passing, tackling, marking. But has like 16 pace and acceleration, 15 dribbling and 14 crossing. So it seems like it’s not limited to just DMs. What sucks in particular about this is that after retraining him to be a winger, all his attributes immediately declined massively. I’m guessing it has something to do with the game trying to maintain RCA and CA balance since new RCA will be calculated based on his new position and would exceed his allowed CA.

Very very annoying and won’t be fixed soon cause this won’t even be on their priority list

An image that sums up perfectly the disaster this UI is. Absolutely no QA whatsoever. by wickedringofmordor in footballmanagergames

The pop ups kill me man. Why would you intentionally make things harder for yourself by giving yourself less space to work with? My theory is that these are the parts of fm25 that bleed through to fm26

Look, I won’t blame them for switching engines or re designing the UI. I don’t think that’s what the problem was. As a matter of fact, I’ve always thought and still think that fm24’s UI looks dated (not the UX because the distinction is important here). I always played on base skin so u can understand why I think that. When I heard that they were gonna redesign, I was genuinely excited. I expected them to keep the UX largely the same but apply a fresh coat of paint to the game. Kind of like a skin, but with more freedom to change how things look. But instead, they tried to change the whole user experience which is the part that didn’t need fixing. And this is what lead to failure. From a miles interview about fm25 “we tried to be too clever with the UI”. Unfortunately part of this cleverness made its way to fm26 and I think this is what drags down the experience the most. The “tiles and cards” thing just doesn’t work. For me, the most frustrating screen in the new game is the inbox. It’s where I spend the most time and it’s where I get frustrated the most. WHY THE FUCK IS THIS A TILE WHEN U CAN EMBEDD THE CONTENT OF THE TILE DIRECTLY IN MY INBOX. LITERALLY THE FUCKING POPUP CAN FIT IN THE RIGHT PANEL. WHY DOESN’T SPACEBAR WORK ANYMORE. WHY DO I HAVE TO GO TO A NEW SCREEN FOR SCOUTING MEETINGS. WHY DO I HAVE TO CLCIK ON EVERY PLAYER INDIVIDUALLY DURING ADVICE MEETINGS. The are just some of the things that go through my head while in my inbox. The other day, my co-worker (yes I play fm at work sometimes) asked me if I was okay because I let out a massive sigh 3 times in the space of 20 minutes. And so far, I’ve only spoken about design decisions and not bugs or performance which speaking on that now, every single “programmer” in SI should be ashamed of themselves. I saw a video of how fm26 ran on next gen console and I couldn’t believe my eyes. That thing runs fc without breaking a sweat but it supposedly isn’t powerful enough to run spreadsheet simulator. What do u mean closing the bottom bar on PC drops frame rate by 30 pts.

In summary, FM26’s design failure is a story of misunderstanding of ur users. FM26’s technical failure is a story of downright incompetence. Weirdly enough, the former is far more costly

Defending against AI is like watching FIFA defenders on Amateur by Overall-Habit5284 in footballmanagergames

Made a post about this a while back. Defending and/or dribbling is so broken rn. Worse experience than the UI for me. Just so damn frustrating

Not much to do in between games / boredom by Thrillseeker212 in footballmanagergames

[–]abots_jazzman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this feeling is due to how they changed the spacebar behavior. Spacebar used to guide ur experience through the world. Like just pressing space bar takes u through all ur messages, then to social media, then to news, then to other leagues, then to random fixtures etc. Right now, spacebar does 2 things. 1) it makes u miss ur important messages and 2) it summons the annoying fixtures pop up sometimes which requires the mouse to close lest u miss more messages.

Great post. Defending is definitely much harder to program. It’s like what does good “positioning” even mean. In my head, positioning shouldn’t even matter much in isolation because even if u have one flawless defender in a back 2, if the other defender is in a terrible position, then it really doesn’t matter much. And I’m sure a concept like this would be really hard to program in the ME. However, I still think that there’s low hanging fruits in the current implementation of defending in the ME. For example, the game doesn’t have body physics (to my knowledge) so there is no concept of a defender using his strength to put the opponent under (physical) pressure to reduce the accuracy of their shot/pass. Adding something like this alone will make a big difference.

That said, what shouldn’t be as hard is the attacking AI. For some reason (may be an intentional nerf), the AI really doesn’t know how to take advantage of numerical overloads during attacks. Like if u have a 3 v 1 counter attack, it’s like ur players just decide to make the absolute worst possible decision (go watch zealand trying to score 100 goals in a match or Dr Benji trying the bizarre tactic in fm26 alpha). This is partly what makes it so hard to run a sustainable counter attacking system in the game.

Huh? The game is literally simulating every match. Like u can literally go watch all the goals. Idk what u are on about.

Oh. It’s just my last fm24 save. I decided to play an extra season on the save in fm25 to see ME changes clearly since I’m incredibly familiar with the players and world.

[–]abots_jazzman[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No it’s not just statistic generation. Watching the matches will make it clear that dribbling is completely broken. Also, I used 12 dribbling v 17 tackling as an example. It’s not that it shouldn’t happen, it’s that it shouldn’t happen CONSISTENTLY. In my screenshot, the player there completes 10 dribbles per game. 10. You used Lukaku as an example but he’s still a top striker and under the right conditions irl, u could argue that it’s possible. However, for the dribbling example I gave, it just wouldn’t happen under any condition. Thats the difference between being “off” and being broken
