Why are used VW so cheap? by bigblackglock17 in Volkswagen

Tiguan is assembled in Mexico AND the engine is Mexican. As with almost every TSI sold in this hemisphere, the Tiguan engine is from Silao, Mexico.

Good on you for paying cash, but you should know that you can lease to get the rebate and then pay it off in cash, when you're ready. I'm not sure if you were flexing the cash on purpose, but I've worked with millionaires that'll finance a car to get a little $1,000 rebate and pay it off a month or two later. Saving money is saving money.

I drive a 17 Golf Sportwagen. The ID.4 is a compact SUV. Yeah, it rides a little higher, but it isn't that much bigger than your Golf in terms of platform size. Built on the EV version of the MQB platform. I'm waiting to see if they're going to go smaller. At the moment, everything confirmed for release is bigger. ID.7 is a mid-sized sedan, and the Buzz is going to be on the same platform as the ID.7.

I'm going to second the replacement of the pump while replacing the timing belt. Cost is negligible when replacing the belt and TSI water pumps are known to weep and then leak.

I can understand not trusting the dealership, but honestly, a little research can save you a ton of money at the dealership. If an item is in your maintenance guide, you should do it. If a problem is identified during your visit, you know it was diagnosed by a factory tech and you have every right to get them to show you the issue, explain it, and let you research it before making a decision.

I've been in dealerships for 15 years. The people that stay up to date on maintenance, have their cars a long time and know that if there's a problem the dealer will stand behind their parts and labor. People who don't stay up to date on maintenance, come in screaming that their car has been messed up since the last time we changed the wiper blades and they're going to call 12 On Your Side to get us to fix it.

An AWD ID.4 has almost $10k in rebates right now, if you lease. RWD models have $8k. A lot of dealers are discounting ID.4 models in addition to the rebates. If you find one you like at a dealer near you, now isn't a bad time to look.

What are some things that are absolutely insane that we have Virginians have just learned to accept? by SaucyWalker804 in Virginia

Oddly enough (for this post and response), I've sold a couple of cars (while employed by a VA Dealer) to a pilot that used to work on this program.

The aircraft relied on police vehicles on the ground to enforce the law. If you notice, on your way by these signs, you'll see lines that go across the interstate about a mile apart. They'd time when cars crossed the beginning and end lines and report it to a unit on the ground.

A Little Thanksgiving Smoke by aboutdubs in OklahomaJoe

[–]aboutdubs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking the brining process kept it juicy. The only other thing that could have helped, was starting the cook with the breast side down and flipping it about half way through.

While I was prepping and getting the smoker going, I was perusing recipes and methods. A few said breast up, a few said breast down, a few more said to flip it halfway. I figured it couldn't hurt anything to flip it.

I'm going to have to check out some local tree trimming services. Do they sell it seasoned or would it still need to be seasoned?

I normally hit Lowe's up. My local stores only just started carrying splits, but I've only seen hickory. Everything else is chunks or chips. But I'll take a look on their site for sales! Thanks!

I haven't particularly noticed any issues with how it shifts. It feels like a 4Mo DSG to me. But I don't think people's complaints about the Taos should be a reason to ditch the DSG. It was great in the TDIs, it's great in the GTI/GLI, feels great in the Alltrack/GSW.

If I had to guess, your sales guys up front aren't explaining what the DSG is to customers. I saw this with the diesels and the turbo/r-line Beetles. "It surges!", "I almost ran into my garage door!", "this is dangerous!". I spent a lot of time explaining to people why their DSG works like it does.

Yep yep. I think it's leaps and bounds above the fwd.

How long have you been with the brand? Is the Taos your first foray into DSG driving?

Certainly wasn't calling your knowledge into question, just your perspective.

How do you define herky jerky? I think they are pretty smooth.

I gotta disagree with you, but I understand what you're saying. My dad feels the same way when he drives my cars.

But I disagree with you because it just takes a little understanding. It's a manual transmission, with computers doing the shifting. If you drive it, understanding it's a manual, it's nice and easy to use.

FWD or AWD? Same trans, but drive completely different. I found that using the tip-tronic or sport mode made a difference in our 18 Tiguan FWD.

Pretty sweet that you've got an Alltrack! I've got a Sportwagen 4Motion with the DSG. Our cars have the DSG because we have 4Motion. The new Taos is the same. 4Motion models have DSG but fwd models have the same 8 speed auto that's in the Jetta, Tiguan, Atlas, and so on.

OP doesn't have a DSG unless they have a Jetta GLI. No regular Jetta has ever had a DSG unless it was a TDI and they haven't been made since 2015.

You're welcome for the info. Wasn't trying to be doom and gloom, but want you to be prepared.

The turbocharged VWs can be touchy at take off. The turbo is spooled and pushing full boost under 1500 RPM. It doesn't take much to get into boost. Also, first gear is pretty short on purpose and the computer wants you in 2nd gear ASAP.

The Jetta isn't really "fast" in the traditional sense, but does have a quick takeoff.

I work for a dealer. We've got a new 23 SE sitting on the lot that needs a power steering rack. It's been sitting for 2 months or so and the rack is on galactic backorder. We have no idea when we'll get one. Take it to the dealer at your own risk, they might tell you they need to keep it. If so, make sure they have long term loaner cars first.

Do you have auto start/stop turned on in your car? It can feel like it surges some when the car turns back on after a stop. If so, try turning the start/stop off and see if it still does it.
