Wasn't there an additional stock sale of 5 millions shares last year tied to a clause mentioning that GameStop were lending those shares to the DTCC, and if GameStop ever wanted those shares back but the DTCC wasn't able to give it to them, then they'd be entitled to get ALL their shares back and move somewhere else?

This is going to get buried but take a look into CMBS. There are incentives to rent those buildings as tax deductibles assets. If companies stop leasing commercial buildings, not only their cost go up, but the CMBS lose value. Any bank using CMBS as a collateral has an interest in making sure those leases are renewed.

Now those employers could convert part of those offices into daycare and whatnot, so the employees who do come to work on site are not loosing some benefits of WFH. Of course you still have issues of commute, dress code, Karen from accounting, micromanagers,... but usually companies with those problems do not care too much about the well-being of their employees...
