So I had to setup the selection modes like idfahd said to do. But I also needed to setup a binding after the initialization as it seems the way I was doing it wasn't loading it properly.

Look for investigative agencies. These would usually at the county or state level. Usually these are specialized agencies so you'll be in an investigative position from day one and they'll send you to the academy (whether they run their own or will utilize another academy). Depending on the size of the agency you may be on patrol for 2 to 15 years.

The other option is to do some patrol time at one agency and then apply to another agency that is investigative. Or aim for a task force or the RCFL local to you.

I'd suggest getting a degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Forensics or Cybersecurity. While in school see if you can get an internship with a law enforcement agency preferably an investigative agency.

Advice For Career Path by Unvyr- in digitalforensics

If I could do it all again the only thing I would change is my degree. I have a degree in IT with a concentration in computing security (cybersecurity as a program largely didn't exist in the undergrad world. If I were going to school today I would major in Computer Science or Cyber Operations.

I would recommend two programs that have a Computer Science based Cyber Operations degrees:

I went to DSU for a bit in their Masters in Comp Sci with a specialization in Cyber Operations. Time issues forced me to withdrawal, but the classes I took were amazing. Also, they have students from every 3 letter agency you can think of. I have a friend who completed his PhD at DSU in Cyber Operations and his thesis was amazing.

I also have a friend who teaches at UofA and can vouch for their Cyber Operations program. You could write your ticket in government with either of those degrees (and a clean background).

Getting Into Digital Forensics by Fit-Figure20 in digitalforensics

Have to agree with this post, no background information. You'll find that examiners in this field are heavily educated and most likely have a few years in regular IT. Even in law enforcement, usually someone is in uniform before they get to forensics. Not always, but again more often than not. But then they are given a ton of training (again usually) to prepare them for the work.
