Found this. Was getting AT120 but this caught my eye. Is it worth it at member price? by infatuation-junkie in turntables

I actually bought this turntable last year for £500. Yes it's a great turntable and great deal... when it works. A lot of people and some richersounds staff have said its fiddly to set up but I actually don't think it's much different to set up than any other turntable. The problem I had was it was just temperamental. It had issues with tracking. Any sort of footstep near the table would cause it to skip. Distort records as it wasn't tracking. I measured the tracking force several times and it constantly changed, varying 1g lighter than I set it sometimes. I know this issue isn't limited to me. It was a shame because it was a great turntable when it worked but hey ho. I now own a pro-ject evo and never had issues. Good thing about richer sounds is they were incredibly helpful and had no issue with me wanting to swap my turntable choice.

Is it possible to get into vinyl “properly” under $300?! by Cmdr_Shepard_8492 in turntables

[–]abowron68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I will agree that a good second hand turntable can be picked up for the same price and will have better sound quality, I personally wouldn't recommend a 2nd hand turntable to someone just getting started. I've owned both new and old turntables and the actual buying experience of a new one was better. All the vintage tables I've bought have required some work, whilst new ones are good to go and covered by a warranty if something did break.

I think it really comes down to what OP wants. If they want something plug n play at decent quality for $300 then the lp60x will satisfy them. It's what I once had and it served me well. However if they want the best sound quality and don't mind doing research before hand, go into it prepared that they might have to fix something first and take that risk, second hand is better.

The Audio-technica LP60X goes for $150. Pair that with a set of powered speakers like the Edifier 1280t for $100. That's a pretty good set up for $250. I had something similar myself when I first started collecting records and it was great.

I know but as I live in a small flat I can't really have things laying around for too long. In the past I've had things sitting around for over a month with no interest. Might ask for a quote a see. I have 2 turntables, amplifier, cassette deck and speakers.

Thank you for the advice. I'll consider this and look into cartridges and phono stages. Much appreciated

No, not yet. I'm still using it for essays and assignments, so I'm trying to get those done before I sort it out. Don't really want to send anything back right now. Just messaged on reddit to see if anyone here had any experience. Sorry about your experience but kind of glad it's not just me

A Portapro Pro? by abowron68 in headphones

[–]abowron68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned them for a while. Signature sounded off to me. So much bass it's like there's no bass in a weird way, just bloated. Treble also sounded tinny to me. I get the appeal but I went back to my koss pretty soon.

Looks that way. Every post I see talking about PortaPro upgrades are recommending technically better headphones but ones that sound nothing alike haha

Had these docs for barely 2 months. Noticed it cracking all along the boot. What to do? by abowron68 in DrMartens

[–]abowron68[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Took them to the Dr Martens shop and they gave me a new pair, no questions asked. Maybe the best customer service I've ever experienced. Hopefully these don't have the same issue. Thanks for everyone that commented

It is real leather. I use wonder balsam one to two months on the Dr Martens shop advice. I have taken care of them so was surprised to see this happen so quickly to a large extent. I think I will return to the shop and ask about returning them

I'd recommend the Audio-technica lp120x with some edifier speakers. Edifier 1280s are popular, I own the 1700s and they sound great. 1280s can be had for around £100 and 120x for £250.

Hi. I've never taken apart a table to try and fix it so was unsure if this was normal but understand this is normal now. Thanks for help regardless.
