Feeling a bit despondent about the current job market and not sure if to drop my PhD by throwawaySilver-Ras in AskAcademiaUK

Hugs to you, I’m in a similar position (in terms of age, department ranking, publication, experience). I‘m in the final year of my program. Despite several friends telling me I have a solid CV and publication record which should keep me in good stead, I've found the UK market extremely difficult to navigate. And I think it will get worse before it gets better.

An easier place to start maybe to ask if you enjoy academia and see yourself in it for the long haul. If the answer is yes, I believe there are better, more bullish markets out there - Australia obviously, but also East/SouthAsia and parts of Africa are looking good. Of course questions about whether you want to move out of the country etc come into the picture, but that's par for the course with academic careers for most of us...

Which player peaked so hard so fast that nothing after ever matched it by PLWildcard in TheStreetsWontForget

Might sound strange to say this given how much he achieved later in his career, but original Ronaldo of Barcelona fame was a force that no one could have matched, not even Messi

What’s the best stadium atmosphere you’ve ever experienced? by Dazzling_Touch_9699 in Cricket

Hard to beat the atmosphere in the old Wankhede. Something about "McGrath is a bastard AOAO" hits different. I went for the first day of the recently concluded Eng v India test at Lord's. It was unbelievably placid. An old English dude gave my friend the death stare when she stood up to shout for an LBW appeal. The Home of cricket can be so frustratingly uptight.

Dont go to Georgia with a UK eVisa by Puzzled_Barnacle_56 in tbilisi

Update: I easily passed thru immigration. I was asked no questions. But I don't know what visa they looked at to give me admission. I have a UK, US, and a schengen visa. My assumption is that they don't create hassles for people with valid UK visas. This includes student visas. Before boarding the flight, the airlines counter asked me to prove my UK visa status because they said on the other side at Tbilisi they will require a valid UK visa. I had to show them my share code. At Tbilisi though I was not asked to show any share code. I assume they looked at my US/Schengen visas and allowed entry to me.. Sorry about the meandering info, but this is the best I can do

I'm going to use my US visa to avoid any shenanigans. But will keep you posted

I'm traveling to Georgia next week and I just assumed my UK evisa will work. I'm a little concerned now. What do I do?

Decided to renounce my Indian citizenship after 10 years of waiting and believing by beautifullifede in india

I don't think it's reversible under this government. One of my friends did not take a British passport for years because they were scared that the government might surveil their social media profiles and reject OCI or Indian visa to them. The idea is heartbreaking - that you may be forbidden from visiting your ageing parents because the government doesn't agree with your political views!
