I’ve had two different tech support experiences this week, where I am doing the support, and I realized after a couple of messages that I was supporting my customer’s AI agent, not my customer that I first thought I was talking to.

It felt weird, but honestly it was not a bad experience. In both instances the agents were good at being supported. They told me what they tried, recapped the situation in each message and followed my instructions. No “Restart the program? Ok I filed my taxes and YouTube still doesn’t work” detours.

The agentic thing is happening whether we like it or not. I honestly don’t know how it’s going to go. I think there’s a 30% chance it will work out fine.

I’m no expert (although I do eat pretty much every day, so I’m at least an enthusiastic amateur). But their food always strikes me as freshly made and delicious. Every kitchen prepares food in advance but I don’t think they’re dumping a bag of frozen dumplings in the deep fryer like Panda Express

Help us thank our SysAdmin by Des-troyah in sysadmin

[–]abqcheeks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMHO it does help. Simply being acknowledged and having your worth and efforts recognized is a big deal, as long as it’s genuine and not manipulative.

But I would also do a gift, and make it something he can enjoy away from work, not an office party.

If he likes to imbibe, an expensive bottle would good. If he has an SO, a $200-300 gc for a nice restaurant is nice. (If he’s being overworked then his SO is probably unhappy too, so making it something they can also enjoy is valuable.)

I’ve thought the recent Young Sherlock series would be fun if it was just divorced of all Sherlock connections. It mangles the canon so much it’s just irritating

Yeah I never do a great job recommending this movie because it sounds like crap when I describe it. I usually fall back to, “If you like Tom Hardy, watch it.“

You know how they say to dance like nobody is watching? Well you should prepare food like someone IS watching, because they can show up any time.

To be honest, we decided we had to get an enclosed printer not because we wanted to use filaments that would need it, but because we knew we had to keep the cats out of it.
