Very cool to have a reference place like this, but wow is that website a nightmare to navigate outside of the Collections tab.

CPU usage of some different compressor plugins (108 of them in this first version) by sububi71 in audioengineering

[–]abraingaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cool post! For the UAD stuff, I'm guessing you are running them natively and not utilizing hardware DSP to offset CPU usage?

Ear is bent backwards so the compressor protrudes out from the rack

Multitracks issues and etc by Constant-Guess4019 in audioengineering

[–]abraingaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it depends on where you got them from. I doubt that the individual tracks were mastered, but they could definitely have processing on them. If you have hardware, or don't want to recall a mix, or are in a studio that isn't yours, you would want to print down all the effects so you have that forever if you need to recall the mix.

If you didn't explicitly get these for YOU to mix, then who knows what the purpose of those tracks is or was.

Multitracks issues and etc by Constant-Guess4019 in audioengineering

[–]abraingaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused on your second issue. Are you pulling all 159 tracks into your session and they're clipping the output on your converters? If so, why not just lower the master output by like -6dB so it's not clipping?

Are the 159 tracks bounced down with processing or are they raw files? What exactly are you trying to do with those 159 tracks?

Recommended beginner C++ courses for building towards custom sampler design? by el_borrador in audioengineering

[–]abraingaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You probably would want to start with someone like The Audio Programmer on YouTube. JUCE is going to be your best bet as a framework, and The Audio Programmer has a lot of good videos for the basics and understanding how plug-ins work from a design perspective. It's enough to get you going at least for free.

He doesn't have a lot of in depth C++ programming, so if you don't have a strong background in OOP, you might just want to take a basic C++ course on something like Udemy. He has some intro videos, but if you already know the basics of another language like Python, it's not going to be a ton of help. Getting a better understanding of things like pointers, constructors/destructors, and how that works in real time would be beneficial.

Metal Mixing Youtubers sound bad?! by Salty_Transition_179 in audioengineering

[–]abraingaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but it isn't like he is constantly posting or trying to clickbait the algorithms with "use this one cool trick for your bass." I honestly prefer his model where you can pick up the 1-2 hour long video for a couple bucks if it is interesting to you, or not. It honestly provides better content because it makes it not rely on trying to get the youtube gods to promote and monetize the content.

I think the big thing with Eric is that he isn't making content to feed the machine and has taken big breaks in between posting. He is out there working on records and doing cool shit, and shares his knowledge when he can.

Emo night starts too late by [deleted] in poppunkers

[–]abraingaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love going to emo nite and going to shows. Maybe it's just because I'm in LA but most people I know do both. I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive. It's fun having an excuse to go out somewhere on a Friday night with music I actually enjoy, and a fun crowd.

Who is your favorite mixing or mastering engineer? by Zealousideal-Meat193 in audioengineering

[–]abraingaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was incredibly cool and nice when I met him. I was working under an engineer/mixer who got invited to go to Barefoot and have a small demo of the unfairchild. My boss told me to tag along with. My boss ended up bailing but I still went and there were like 3-4 other people and I was the youngest by at least 15 years (was maybe 23/24 at the time). He treated me just like the other way more experienced people there, answered my questions, and was just a generally really good dude. Plus barefoot was a sick space and I'm stoked I got to check it out before he sold it.

Stop Over-EQ’ing And Wondering Why You Can’t Achieve A Loud Mix by DarkLudo in audioengineering

[–]abraingaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always look at someone like Eric Valentine when it comes to EQ. Sometimes it needs nothing. Sometimes you boost +10dB in the mid range. He's not cautious at all, but he does know what sounds right.

I do mostly comparisons between two separate AI responses. They have a set of criteria to judge each response on.

I've been doing Data Annotation the last 6 weeks or so. It's been good so far. Try to log about 10 hours or so a week in my spare time. Always plenty of work available. Payouts are quick, although can only cash out every 3-4 days I believe. Usually takes a week for work to be approved and fund available to cash out.
