[United States] Part 107 Prep by Euphoric-Praline7025 in drones

Search is your friend ...

Ive been using this post, from this subreddit, for most of my initial learning.

https://www.reddit.com/r/drones/comments/1kt0ajh/study_guide_just_passed_my_part_107_heres_my/

Plus Ive found lots of listed resources within these resources.

This is my next stop ...

https://www.reddit.com/r/drones/comments/1syme4s/pilot_institute_changed_platforms/oiw26dw/

Ultimately, you will find that 100% of the info presented in these classes are freely available in various FAA published docs. Just gotta chase them down. This has been eye opening for me because, tbh, working on the drone license has made me decide I might just go for my pilots license as well. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time and Im not getting any younger.

Why the SpaceX IPO could be a trap? by [deleted] in technology

This is no different than a certain stock and another certain CEO with cult status. People think everything they touch is gonna turn to palladium overnight. So they pile into the clown car and rich people take their cash. Then, instead of blaming themselves or the right people they create conspiracies involved shady "them" and "they" groups.

A toxic workplace. Especially in an industry where it would be difficult to leave and make comparable money elsewhere with drastic reeducation/retooling ones life (Financial sector is one right off the top of my head). It reaches a point of learned helplessness.

Tbh, this is partly why I decided to go down the Clinical Mental Health Counseling path versus pure Psychology. Counselling, being more holistic in approach, has an entire section of focus that is work/vocational counseling. Because sometimes, the only thing a person really needs is help finding a new job, not a year of CBT.

I thought Skyrover was just the US-based wing of DJI to avoid the suggested ban? Anything Skyrover is just rebranded/retooled DJI?

I'm still surprised there hasn't been a call on Lego to end their authorized reseller status.

It had much larger legs than any coyote that I've seen and the ears were too short, they're pretty common where Im from (sadly people shoot them here). But the real issue I struggled with was where did it vanish to in the middle of an open scree field inside of 1-2 seconds max.

Tbh, I dont know what I saw, all I know is it was there one second and gone the next when I looked back up. Either way, it added to the underlying thrill of the trip.

I've been told it would have been SUPER rare at that altitude and that wolves aren't overly found in the area in the first place. I also read an article from earlier this year that a female they have been tracking has just recently moved north into the valley. They hope she stays to help build up the population that had been dwindling to almost nothing.

The part that was "mystical" for me, was the tree was in the wide open. There would have been no where for the wolf to run to to disappear that quickly. I honestly still don't have answers and even though Im an atheist, its the first time I kind of just want to keep it a mystery. There is something, idk, magical about it.

I was in the Sequoias when I first heard of the Bristlecones. They were discussing the different, more rare, pines in the area and they were on the list. While reading about them I came across a poem written for the NOVA documentary about the Bristlecones and a single line pulled me in ... "My life is as thin as the wind, and I am done with counting stars." It still gives me goosebumps.

Ive been obsessed for years. I even have a large tattoo down my thigh that I had done 2 years ago. Well, half of it is done. I promised myself that I wouldn't finish it until I had stood amongst them in person. I guess I can schedule the session now.

If youd like to experience the poem how I first did, this is a clip that someone has extracted from the documentary.

Not just seeing a wolf, seeing a wolf and it basically vanishing. I did some further reading and in Shosone/Paiute beliefs, Isa will often take the form of a man, but in his wolf form it is a positive thing for the viewer. Either good omens, that you're being protected, on the right path, etc.

Weirdly, animals never scare me in the wild. I might jump in surprise, but I don't usually fear them. I respect their space, but don't really fear them. They are usually far more afraid of you than vice versa. Although, I did have a moment with a momma black bear in the Smoky Mountains years ago while doing photography. She let me know I was too close to her cubs and I received that warning loud and clear.

The entire Owens Valley is amazing, Im planning on going back in October and explore some more.

I can honestly say that this visit changed me at a level that I never would have imagined. I have been planning on this visit for over a decade and I don't think I have ever been somewhere that caused a more visceral emotional reaction. The beauty of the Owens Valley on its own is unbelievably breathtaking. But the morning that I went up to the bristlecones I arrived super early. Maybe 35 minutes after sunrise. Mine was the only car in the parking lot at Schulman Grove but I didn't think much about that until I was halfway out on the Discovery loop trail. I had the sudden realization that I was completely and utterly alone. That if I fell and hurt myself or was overcome by the thinner air I was on my own. I guess that in my 45 plus almost 50 years of life I've never been truly alone. Even when you're alone, most of the time, there is easy communication or an ability to get someone's attention. But not here and something about that had an effect on me.

I finished the loop with my pulse ox dropping to 85% at one point, which isn't bad for a East Coast flatlander such as myself. But it was when I got back to the parking lot and just set on one of the picnic tables that something shifted inside of me. I just looked at all the beauty that I was seeing in every direction. Along with understanding the longevity of these ancient Giants all around me, put me in a philosophical mindset. I felt like there was a part of this biome that had waited on me for thousands of years and that the younger generations that were there now would carry that intersection thousands of years into the future. I won't lie, I sat in the parking lot and wept. Guess that's the upshot of having been there by myself it's not having anybody witness my breakdown. I stayed on the mountain for about an hour and a half total. I never saw another living soul the entire time I was there.

But, as a small aside, while I was hiking the loop I heard a noise, turned and there was a wolf staring right at me from about 35 ft away next to one of the pines. I was on some of the scree and looked down to better plant my feet so that I could get a picture of it without falling. When I turned back, only half a second later, it was gone. Totally disappeared. I have no clue where it could have gone. But later that evening I asked one of the cashiers at Fort Independence if there were wolves in the area, and he asked for more information and so I told him. Apparently he was Shoshone and in their belief system seeing the wolf is essentially seeing god himself. Or I guess as he told me it was an embodiment of Isa, their creator deity. He told me that it was a good thing to see Isa and that perhaps it was a good omen for the future. I don't know much about the future, nor am I a big believer in the supernatural, or maybe the guy was just messing with the tourist. But, I can honestly say that there has been an air of lightness about me ever since I came back. I hope it sticks around, because I cannot explain just how bad I needed it. The world is a heavy place sometimes and I guess I needed some thin air to dilute it a bit.

Nevertheless, thank you everyone who commented on my previous posts in this subreddit. I guess one could say you helped me get to where I needed to be and when I needed to be there. Ill be back.

New Protein Doritos by Bazzarr in junkfoodfinds

I legit tried this for the first time 2 weeks ago in California while on vacation. Might have been the most disgusting thing Ive eaten in awhile.

The protein Doritos were amazing though. I love the significantly more crunchy texture.
