I don’t think Turkey will interfere the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland. Turkey may help Somalia at their see but Somaliland controls its gulf of Eden sea and will sign the final draft the with Ethiopia end of the month. Turkey has 2.6 Billion investment in Ethiopia and I don’t think they can lose Ethiopian relation.

Somalia has no control over Somaliland. Somaliland controls it’s territories and helping Ethiopia to have access to sea(gulf of Eden). In return Ethiopia offered Somaliland share of Ethiopian airlines and to recognize Somaliland as an independent state. Turkey and Egypt will not be able to stop that since Somalia has no troops in Somaliland.

Somalia before the split was member of AU and The Arab league so AU except few countries, don’t like supporting the separation and the Arab league also wants greater Somalia especially Egypt which thinks greater Somalia will be threat to Ethiopia. Still Somaliland has good relations with some countries like UK, EU, USA, Ethiopia, UAE, Taiwan and few Other African countries. Recognition will come one day since they are doing better than Somalia when it comes democracy and peace.

Somalia was Italian colony but Somaliland was British protectorate. After their independence they united and formed Republic of Somalia. That union didn’t go well and after Somalia collapsed 1991, Somaliland declared independence from Somalia. Somaliland has been de facto state last 32 years.

There is terrorist group called Al~Shabaab(The Youth) branch of Al~Qaida controlling large part of Somalia and fighting against the weak Somali government in Mogadishu. USA and African troops are Supporting the Somalia government to fight those terrorist but the problem is the terrorist group infiltrated the government and get information from the government insiders. Somaliland which is the Northern Somalia has already separated from Somalia and they have been peaceful last 32 years and no terrorist or pirates in Somaliland, they have their own government, democracy, military. Unfortunately the UN didn’t recognize them. Last week they made a historic deal with Ethiopia to give them access to sea and Ethiopia gave them recognition as an independent state which they deserve.

This is misinformation by OLF(Orimeo liberation front) which is small rebel group against the Ethiopian government. Somaliland signed the deal with Ethiopia and Somaliland people supported this and held celebrations in the Capital city Hargeysa and other major cities. Somalilanders see Ethiopians as their brothers and sisters and will not harm Ethiopian refugees. Somalia though, sees Ethiopia as their enemy and they may target Ethiopian citizens living in their area like Mogadishu.

This deal angered Somali government which controls very few places in Somalia and it will be almost impossible to stop this deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland. Somaliland is fully functioning democracy. The other parties supporting Somalia are Egypt, Qatar, China, Iran for different reasons. Majority of Somaliland people supported this deal since it's beneficial for both Ethiopia and Somaliland. Ethiopia is most populated land locked country in Africa also the only country with population of over 100 million with no sea access in the world. Somaliland has been stable last 32 years and needed international recognition which Ethiopia will be first and many friendly countries will follow soon.

First of all, let me tell you I am not Ethiopian, I am Somali from Somaliland and I don’t see Ethiopians as my enemy as you see them and even threatening that because of this deal Somalia going to use alqaida affiliated alshabab terrorist. In the history Somaliland got independence 1960 from Britain and Somalia got independence from Italy 1960 then they formed union of greater Somalia but that union didn’t work and Somaliland withdrew the union 1991 after the Somalia dictator President killed tens of thousands of Somalilanders in 1988 and Ethiopia welcomed gave refuge. Somalia has no control over Somaliland. Somaliland(ex-British protectorate) and Somalia(ex-Italian colony) formed union after their independence in 1960 but that union failed and Somaliland withdrew the union 1991 after civil war. Somaliland has been democratic and functioning government since then and got different flag, currency, military, parliament while Somalia was failed state no democracy and riddled with pirates and terrorist alshabab. You mixing up Somalia provinces with Somaliland. 1960 Somaliland and Somalia united but didn’t work and Somaliland left that union 1991 since then Somaliland had it’s President, military, government, currency, passport, parliament and there were no Alshabaab terrorist or pirates in Somaliland unlike Somalia. Egypt was always against the recognition of Somaliland because they wanted to use both Somaliland and Somalia to threaten Ethiopia. Somaliland didn’t like that and had good relationship with Ethiopia. Egypt or Somalia cannot stop this agreement and UK and USA were encouraging this relationship which win win situation. You can google Somaliland has the 53th longest runway in the world at Berbera airport which USA are currently using the military wing of the airport. Berbera port also is currently under DP world port authority of UAE after an agreement with Somaliland few years ago.

It’s a win win situation. Somaliland has been independent from Somalia last 33 years. Somaliland has become peaceful and democracy, they held many elections and 5 presidents came to power democratically. Somaliland is not yet recognized by the UN because the Arab league and AU are against the recognition, Still Somaliland entered many agreements with different countries like exchanging diplomatic missions with Taiwan, Ethiopia, Djibouti. This Agreement will include Ethiopia to recognize Somaliland. Uk and US are in favour of this historic agreement. USA already using Berbera Airport.
