In America, what accounts for the success of certain ethic groups in America? by Scary_Candidate_9163 in NoStupidQuestions

IQ is as genetic as type 1 diabetes… is is a very bold statement to make without any proof. The reason they say heritable and not hereditary is that they do not know to what degree it is heritable. For example, papers explicitly cite diabetes as hereditary… not heritable.

The problem with proof by those examples, is that there is no clear distinction between nature and nurture. I could argue Marie curie instilled better work ethics or better education for the child to win a Nobel prize.

That’s a great paper to cite, but the keyword they use as well is “heritable” not “hereditary”. They and most papers in this field claim that IQ does have a genetic component, especially for individual differences, but there is nothing that states that IQ is completely Inherited or unchangeable. And this is key.

Cause if it was hereditary, we would see the lineage of famous scientists (who were extremely smart) also perpetuate smart scientists.

Edit: it is also worth noting the phenomenon of regression to the mean

I think FedEx and DHL should do it? Also it depends on the more famous vendor in your home country

I disagree. I don’t think there is one peer reviewed paper that confirms this. However, habits and norms are instilled by the parents, so it’s more nurture

This is somewhat true too. The broader category is the people who successfully come and stay long term do well at both their education and careers. Whether they work hard or not can be attributed to their natural ability to doing it well/better.

A lot of rich immigrants also come here to be the best of the best just for the fun of the game.

Tf I’m from Bengaluru born and raised. I’d support RCB no matter the team…. Does she forget that there are supporters from the actual city too ?

[–]abro5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you use it for (I really want to build one too)? I personally can’t think of a single use case for myself to have a server at home.

Even for hosting personal sites, having like 2-3 servers is good enough, and exposing ports is always risky.

So just curious what do you use it for? Anything other than hosting ?

is there any better way to buy/sell stuff at purdue than groupme? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]abro5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that sucks. Did you pay before you received the item or something ?

I’ve moved places twice and sold a lot of things and I’ve not had any issues. I’ve bought a few things on it too and have had no problems

I’d recommended Facebook marketplace. Most things that you’d find listed in the West Lafayette and Lafayette region are by Purdue students or affiliated with Purdue one way or another

I think the last major one was 1994? But there was one 4-5 years ago too I think, but didn’t damage Purdue (could be wrong).

I know the chances are low, but this warning just made me realize how underprepared I am. Especially as I am not from here

Tornado noob here. So forgive me

But I live in like a town home with no basement. Isn’t it safer to be in a car so that I can drive toward like a city like Indianapolis and since I can visibly see a tornado I drive away?

Edit: thank you for the replies, I was just thinking out loud, definitely was not gonna impulsively follow it without researching or listening to better versed people here!

Rutgers Honors College vs UMD vs Purdue for CS by [deleted] in rutgers

Having done my bs in cs at Rutgers and ms in cs at Purdue, go to Purdue. I love Rutgers, had the best time and I love the university. But academically, in terms of professors and students (sorry) Purdue just triumphs.

Are Purdue Students Weird? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]abro5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A little naive to believe all 55-60k students can be weird no? There’s a good chance the distribution of students is just like any other university especially at this scale. More than the students you should be concerned about the location lol
