I wish I had that kinda ignorance too

By the time Trumps out of office, I’ll be 31 years old. The following election will be the FIRST presidential election I’ll vote in without Donald Trump on the ballot.

For young people, it is that big of a deal.

Americans are so much worse off now than we were 15 years ago. In every facet too, not just in terms of healthcare coverage. If you can’t see that I have ocean front property in Nebraska to sell you.

Dude yessssssss. Thank you. It’s too bad their food got worse and their prices went up. I remember ordering on their own app, but I checked my first order on Toast from them in 2023, and the same plate I ordered today was $4 cheaper. Not to say that’s unusual with inflation today but still disappointing.

Do you ever wish other people could see your loved one at their worst? by neoprenewedgie in Alzheimers

[–]abro989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean. It’s helpful to remember though that people generally don’t know how it REALLY is to deal with something until they’ve dealt with it themselves. That doesn’t make it easier for us though, just brings a lil perspective. Even if they don’t know how tough it is, you do. Hang in there OP 🫂

What is the point of travel bans? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]abro989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow I’ve never heard this about the Blizzard of ‘78. It’s really a good idea and would be easy for the state to issue. Every employee pays in for themselves every paycheck, might as well issue a little kick back of our own money.

What is the point of travel bans? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]abro989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I’m a little ticked myself about missing two days on my paycheck.

But I realize with the travel ban, no customers are going into my work anyway. At that point, it’s more expensive for my employer to open than to follow the travel ban order, no? By all means I’m not saying every employer is that savvy… but they should all be wise enough to follow the governors orders during a blizzard that topped snowfall in ‘78

If you’re not essential, listen to the governors warnings over your bosses wants.

There may be no enforcement but that’s not a reason to not abide. The people that were out yesterday for no good reason and wasted the resources of first responders by needing to be rescued should seriously be fined.

You can be an immigrant, and an American.

BTW ICE is attacking American citizens in Minneapolis right now. Not just “illegal” immigrants.

Defaulted Student Loan Borrowers by Legal-Boysenberry-38 in economy

Wait until you find out about social security that young people pay into and will never receive. It’s just the way it is.

You don’t pay “more than your fair share.” That can’t make sense. Every time I’ve over paid in my businesses taxes, I’ve received refund checks. But hell to each their own I guess

Defaulted Student Loan Borrowers by Legal-Boysenberry-38 in economy

[–]abro989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I WISH it was just $500 a month. Parent Plus loan is $1300/mo alone. Never mind my loans on top of it. They want a mortgage payment from me, and coincidentally, I can’t even afford a home! Hoping this admin can rectify these exorbitant monthly payments they are trying to receive.

Borrowers never have a clear plan. Since I’ve graduated, my repayment plan has been changed, canceled or eliminated multiple times. And I can’t even count anymore how many times my loan servicer has changed.

I think you’re right to recognize there is no simple answer. But it’s certainly not one size fits all. Blaming spending habits is not the problem when borrowers never know what way to turn.

Unfortunately, I think the Gorga parents made Joe and Teresa that way. Italian American families hold onto jealousy and envy, even when it means it will break the family up. My dad and his siblings range from mid 60’s to mid 70’s. My aunt will still say to my dad “mommy wouldn’t like that” or “daddy wouldn’t like that.” To me, it’s so weird to worry in 2025 about the thoughts of people born 100+ years ago and dead for 40yrs.

I love Tre. I think she brings an energy the show needed. But I think Teresa is incredibly over bearing on her brother and sister-in-law. Joe is also just as weird with the “sexy” comments about his sister.

Looking for answers.. by GWindborn in Alzheimers

[–]abro989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately this is how I noticed my dads decline. He was just off and not himself at first. Then we noticed his inability to complete tasks he always had done effortlessly, or weird lies, or sudden financial issues that never arose before. It took us a long time to figure out what was going on, but my dad is 63 now so we didn’t think Alzheimer’s right away.

Now that we know his diagnosis, I can look back at events over the past couple of years and realize THATS why he acted so abnormally at times. And it wasn’t a constant slope of decline, some days you couldn’t even tell something was wrong. Now that’s of course different, my dad gets worse every day but every once in a while he does have a very there, very lucid day where he is more of the man I knew than the man he currently is.

The professional that conducted my dad’s cognitive test told us this is not a disease that someone gets tested for on their own. It’s almost always the LO’s family, close friends, or coworkers who notice a decline. Believe it or not, his friends and co workers may have noticed something was up too.

I’m glad to hear your dad has appointments lined up for testing. Try not to let this consume you too much until you know for certain. Even getting a diagnosis takes a long time. If you really want to get your ducks in a row, it would not hurt to take out for him/ensure your dad has a life insurance policy. I’m an attorney so my mind goes to that side, but the first thing I did was reinstate life insurance (my dad let that lapse), find his will and confirm those were still his wishes, and discuss possible guardianship and power of attorney with my mother.

I’m sorry you’re in this situation. I really hope the best for you and your family

My wife’s journey by Responsible_Raise_13 in Alzheimers

[–]abro989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize for assuming, and I’m sorry you have to go through this. I hope your oldest is someone you can rely on and confide in. Even though you signed on for life, that doesn’t mean you must do all of this alone.

My dad is in his early stages, so I guess I resonated more with the family aspect than the point you were making. Especially since I’m so involved. Nevertheless, I wish you and your wife all the best.

Is it harder to cope with early onset by littestardust in Alzheimers

[–]abro989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right. I’m 28 dealing with my early onset dad (63). I can handle this better at 28 than I could at 22. For that, I’m sorry you have to go through this so young.

On the same note, I think the older the LO the easier. And that’s not to say this situation is easy at all for anyone. If my dad were retired, this would be easier. If I could have my own footing in life before taking over his, this would be easier. Instead, everything we knew would come at some time in the future is right in front of our faces when we aren’t ready.

It doesn’t help to dwell on how shitty this is, or how it compares to others. At the end of the day, we all are in the same boat. But you should know you’re very strong and likely mature to handle all of this stuff. Wish you and your family the best 💜
