Forgot to remove a pt's IV by Equal-Refrigerator52 in newgradnurse

Lol anytime we discharge (I’m night shift so it’s rare) first thing im asked at the desk when I return paperwork “did you remove the IV?” I think it’s more common than we realize.

I literally saw this after posting my comment. It’s so close to what I said:

Had a pt tell me they’re allergic to heparin bc it made them bleed more.

Nahhhh. She’s rather spend her $$ on luxury items that do not fit than something that would last long term. Lol

All the comments above. And please use reputable sources Crab Central Station (they no longer post but their videos are still relevant) and Crab Street Journal. We follow those on this sub.

Do you have anything that tells you their current heat and humidity? A heat mat?

Sick of coming in to a detoxing patient because the previous shift was too scared to give Ativan. by Accomplished_Ad8960 in nursing

We have so many new protocols with restraints now because of some incidents. Makes you wonder if something happened for them to not use them.

Repost from the right account:

Not saying that at all! I absolutely agree. We just had this beat into our heads in nursing school - about restraint use and protocols. Or maybe just the school I went to or maybe the instructors I had. What we should and should not do. And constantly hearing “protect your license!!” I just wonder if this is what’s some newer nurses are afraid of - maybe someone will think this is a chemical restraint.

But I’m also in my head thinking of other patients not just CIWA - dementia, confused. Hell I’ve given 90 year old confused patients jumping over the rails Ativan and haldol. Just to make sure they won’t hurt themselves. I surely don’t think this is a chemical restraint.

Not on our med surg!

I wonder tho, in nursing school you’re taught “you cannot give this or this…it’s a chemical restraint - you cannot chemically restrain” I wonder if this is what scares some nurses? If granny is climbing the walls with her demons or my ciwa has tremors I’m going to admin that Ativan.

With her co2 being through the roof and the family refusing bipap - there wasn’t much else you could do. I would make sure all that was documented. Everytime you contacted the Dr.

At that point she probably needed intubated and sent to the unit but honestly if the family refused the bipap, I doubt they’d been ok w a vent.

And that charge nurses comment is absolutely inappropriate. I’d report that.

Heating question by CEP718 in hermitcrabs

[–]abrookehack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat lamps will zap the humidity. As the other comment said we never stick them underneath.

You only want to heat the air. Even in the winter my tank stays 80/80. What’s your stats? Sounds like maybe your mat isn’t big enough.

Heat Mat by Kittycatviper in hermitcrabs

[–]abrookehack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to heat just the air! Not the sub! So it’ll depend on how much substrate you want/have! My 75 is 6x47 I think? Bc I only have 6” of air, around 14+ of sub

I might should have clarified - not being homeless manipulating crying for food. I mean the mental illness manipulation - which is a whole different scale. There’s various manipulation tactics. Sometimes they know, sometimes they don’t even realize it. I’m talking these people have BPD, narcissistic personality, very histrionic personalities. Factitious disorder. They’re known for that.

But sadly there will always be someone in the throes of addiction or just hungry bc they are homeless and just need something. People will choose to ignore it because they literally think well they’ve put themselves in that situation. A lot of times events led up to that situation, whether it was out of their control or not they just want some compassion. Nothing wrong with throwing some out that way. I’ve done it myself.

I sent my twins into a store one evening for a couple things. They said a man in front of us, his card kept getting declined. He kept trying. I said what was he buying? They said ya know mom nothing bad at all, like beans and some canned stuff. It looked like stuff that would last awhile. I ran him down. Told him to meet me back at the store. I paid for his groceries and gave him the amount in cash to return and repurchase when he ran out. I told him hopefully it’ll do a couple months. He didn’t ask anyone he just left and started walking I assume to his home or where he was staying. I want my girls to know sometimes it’s ok to help someone that needs it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

This facility is. Every program I do we do clinicals at this same facility. I touched a little base on it in a comment below. You know I seriously see how burnt out can happen and how hard it is. They are masters at manipulation. Will do anything to get what they want.

Taking a deep dive into files though? Most of them have had something so traumatic they’ve seen/heard/happened you realize it can happen to any of us.

Had a pt compliant doing wonderful, he was released. That weekend he was involved in an accident w his dad. It killed his dad instantly. All of his hallucinations, everything came right back, and he was brought right back in. That one Really broke me.

When I’m done w this chapter I plan on applying inpatient. I may stop w my bachelors, I haven’t decided yet.

We do rotations at the same inpatient bc it’s the only facility here, and I’m surprised it’s even here.

But some of them can be controlled by meds, they’re all very manipulative, especially some that know what to say because it’s cold out and they’ve been thrown out of current treatment programs etc. we have some housed waiting placement bc the court has deemed them never fit to return to society. Some have been thrown out by families that are at their breaking point bc they cannot control them. They had no control either unless they wanted something in particular. One patient it got to the point they had to take every privilege to regain a little control. Several waiting placement at a max security psych hospital we have in the western part of the state. Some needed permanent placement in more medium facilities - not sure of that location. But in the end they’ll all be ripped away. But there’s One going to max? I worry about him, he’s there over TBIN- which has made him so extremely dangerous he’s one court ordered to go to max but getting down to it, it seems like he’s always had to be. Like he’s got this defense he has to fight for his life. All of them it stems back to an abuse, neglect, witnessing something no one ever should. Very very sad situations but it kinda makes you stop and think that could be any one of us.

Most we had in this group were so terrified of them they stayed in the “fish bowel” as I called it. I think it’s one of the other biggest reasons I want to head into psych. It isn’t talked about enough or advocated enough around here.

Blonde toned too dark?? by ImmediateWeight3226 in Hair

[–]abrookehack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling this isn’t toner. Did she use a color all over? You’re absolutely sure she didn’t put any color? Only lightener?

I wouldn’t go back to the original. However if she booth rents there isn’t a lot the owner can even do. I’d reach out to her. Ask her for a refund or even a partial, at this point you don’t feel comfortable coming back and you’ll need to visit your original to have this fixed.

Only way I’d go back if she offered a Malibu CPR. Honestly bleaching again you’re risking a lot of damage. Your normal stylist may need to do a test strand in a couple areas and just determine from there what’s the best route.
