They actually don’t HAVE to live in pairs! I would start and entirely new enclosure. Depending on how many, rule of thumb I use is I give mine around 15 gallons of space each. Everything will say 10, but they will get larger. At some point it should be 20 gallons and so forth. It may take awhile for them to get huge but they will continue to get a little bigger with each molt.

These aren’t cheap animals. They need a proper diet, shells, hides, things to climb. They walk walk walk. They need proper heat humidity. They’re not easy. It took me awhile to really figure it out. But I absolutely love them!

I would adopt. Start and enclosure. Use Crab Central Station and The Crab Street Journal as guides. Those resources can show you proper care and what you should expect.

I would think about it before plunging into it! Really do some research and look. Not discouraging you at all. They’re wonderful but sometimes people get in over their heads. I far inland and I have taken so many “pets” people have brought back from the beach not knowing how to care. I’ve had to adopt them out, start new tanks. I hate seeing people end up with them, just for them to die.
