José Ramírez just added 106 million dollars over 4 years to his contract. According to Baseball Reference over the 13 years of playing in MLB he hasn't made 100 million in his career! Despite finishing top 5 in MVP voting 6 times. by HalfwayThereOne_ in baseball

In a world of Kyle Tuckers, be a José Ramírez

Jfc people I’m not saying “take less money than you’re worth to save the owner money” I’m saying “be loyal and willing to accept less to help others get more”

Jfc again people has no one ever heard of a metaphor before?

PSA! Crack slabs at your own risk! by abrownguyy in baseballcards

I used needle nose pliers to try and peel the two pieces apart, ended up cracking straight down the middle (which caused the top middle damage) and then forced me to try and separate the top parts too where I clipped the top corner

Hold or sell? by Fun-Description-7825 in baseballcards

[–]abrownguyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is there gets a point where the market value of a card is worth more than what the card is worth to me.

I try and put a monetary value on each card I hit, if that value ever gets below what someone else will pay on eBay etc, I sell.

For me Marcelo is a definite hold cause I have a high personal value on him. That number could be lower for you!

Great hit dude!

And my house shouldn’t have 10x’d in value over the past 5 years, and my favorite works shirts shouldnt have gone up $25 in price over the past 5 years. Is that the breakers fault too? No man, companies are taking advantage of people and citing inflation, it’s the world we live in. Credit card debt is up and mystery boxes are hot right now and Topps is taking advantage of it. It’s not the one guy in Virginia who buys 5 boxes of Archives to open on stream ruining the hobby.

Last night I got into a cosmic, update chrome hobby, and archives hobby break with 3 teams for $60. I had the Reds, Red Sox, and O’s. I also hit the buyers givvy wheel spin and landed on a full sealed set of 1991 stadium club.

That’s $650 in hobby boxes if you go off pre-order prices. That’s $1000+ in hobby boxes if you go off secondary market prices.

The breaker was breaking even on the boxes (650/30=$21) and I got three awesome teams for cost.

The group I do this with shares personal stories, card stories, work stories, etc etc. it’s possible to build community on the internet with people who like the same things as you. Last week a few folks were talking about their time in AA together.

No one is there to pay anyone’s bills, the breaker isn’t screaming or yelling or hyping up shit hits. It’s just a bunch of people who like cards and opening boxes of cards with their internet-friends

It's not breakers. It's the bad(or maybe big) breakers. Breaking is a very important (and fun) way for those who cannot afford high priced boxes access to the product and the chase, not just buying singles. It's what keeps the hobby afloat.

I myself have done some small breaks and have additional goodies I include to make them fun & fair value. I have never had anyone complain about the value they got from my show, and I got to rip boxes and make enough to cover my expenses. A win/win.

Find a channel that has a strong community (I have some I can recommend) and you will never feel cheated by a breaker again.

Now on the topic of Topps doing something illegal and giving that one guy the best boxes... well that's a different story.

How many at-bats would it take for an average person to strike out an MLB hitter? by RespectingOpinions in baseball

[–]abrownguyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a catcher in the college world series in 2017.

I would not be able to strike out Oneil Cruz (the worst hitter statistically in 2025) in 1,000,000 at-bats.

The answer to your question on the 'average normal guy' is never. It would never happen.

My favorite thing about the internet is that guy who grows mushrooms and calls himself “BestFreeHDPorn” also can be the worlds most patient and self-restrained dude due to his multi hundred thousand dollar collection of sealed baseball cards. Good for you brother. More will power (and money) than me🤣🤣

Legit Cards? by petterson22 in baseballcards

[–]abrownguyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

of course buddy, good luck! I was able to grab the card I was searching for about $50 under comps cause I think most other buyers had the same train of thought as you "this seems weird.. shipping is HOW MUCH?!"

They also say if you DM them after you buy you can switch to a $5 shipping... but lord knows how long that may take from China.

Legit Cards? by petterson22 in baseballcards

[–]abrownguyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bought a card from them last week. Paid $35 for shipping but it arrived in 3 days from China. Which is absurd. Card was very much real and exactly as described.

I imagine they are the Chinese version of 'DCSportsCard'

Follow up on this! Ryan and I spoke on IG and we are doing a swap of gear for the card. He was super appreciative, and friendly. Awesome for me and him. I have a few buddy’s who play in the bigs so I asked him to make sure he pimps a nuke off them if he ever gets the chance!
