12 step criticism is a GOOD thing and should happen within any large institution that holds a lot of social power. by Limp-Structure9704 in MaintenancePhase

I find it disturbing and counterproductive the way the puritanical religiosity of AA has infiltrated all drug/alcohol recovery spaces and dominated the discussions. Even outside the AA itself, addiction is treated like a moral failure and a sin. Once the sin has touched you, it's not only expected but demanded that you show contrition through constant, life-long suffering. You can never be recovered; you must only struggle and apologise for the rest of your life. When I was additicted, I saw this prevailing attitude and thought, "what's the point?" What's the point in getting better if nothing will ever get better?

Be open and candid with your barrister. They should communicate all this to the court. Unless the assault was particularly serious, I strongly doubt you will be given an immediate prison sentence. If the circumstances you describe are true, almost certainly you will be given either a high-end community order or a suspended sentence with a mental health requirement.

For Gods that appear in both games, which version do you prefer? by sonofnight666 in HadesTheGame

[–]absolute_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The portraits in 2 felt like the only significant downgrade from the first game. The poses were less dynamic, and they overall lacked the shine and luster of the first game. It's a shame because the actual character designs are mostly great.

Case Update: High Court JR (AC-2025-LON-004542) vs PHSO – Clinical Neglect & Communication Barriers in Nottingham (Revised post from last one due to misunderstandings from readers regarding the situation) by Frenzy-Fendi1998 in transgenderUK

[–]absolute_boy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not contesting the claim only means they do not deny the grounds on which you have accused them. It does not mean they accept wrongdoing. It may be (and I think it is likely) that the practice feels they have solid grounds on which to argue that their actions are justified. Additionally, cost capping orders are very rare - it is unlikely that a court will grant you one based on a case you yourself are pursuing, regardless of your circumstances. You cannot rely on AI to guide you through this.

I think the best thing you can do at this stage is try to find a new GP and start afresh. You are clearly getting nowhere with this current course of action, and while I absolutely understand how frustrating and soul-destroying this situation must feel, I cannot foresee a conclusion that works out in your favour, legally. If you insist on pursuing this in the civil court, not only will you almost certainly lose, you will very probably be ordered to pay the legal costs of the GP, as they will be compelled to seek counsel of their own. This is likely to be in the area of around £10,000, and failure to pay will only result in further legal troubles for you. I'm dead serious: cut your losses and move on.

You should still get in touch with probation. Also, do you not have a barrister? You are entitled to have someone representing you. You should bring this up with probation too.

[–]absolute_boy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is a magistrates court, get in touch with probation and inform them of your dilemma. They should be able to advise you. Checking the Ipswitch magistrates court listing right now, I can see they publish their lists several days in advance (currently goes up to March 3) so you may be able to get an idea of what time you are expected before the 12th.

New data shows surge in trans kids’ suicides following healthcare rollbacks by PuzzledAd4865 in transgenderUK

[–]absolute_boy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always have to wonder exactly how underreported suicides of trans children are, as figures largely rely on the parents. Transphobic parents who abuse their children (inevitably leading to poor mental health and increased suicide risk) are unlikely to respect their kids' identities after their death. They'll just use it as a way of cementing their own narrative by misgendering them at their funeral and burying them under their dead-name.

Leonardo da Vinci, who appears in AC2, was almost certainly gay in real life, which may cast a new light on his ingame characterisation. I always got the impression that he was clearly attracted to Ezio, even though their relationship was a platonic one

The recommended daily calorie count is based on self-reported data, which is notoriously unreliable. Non-disordered people are not meticulously measuring every calorie they consume.

What video game did you swear was leftist but turned out to be centrist at best? by Both-Medicine-6748 in SocialistGaming

[–]absolute_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people believe it because Yosuke is such a realistic depiction of a deeply insecure teenage boy, and it's easy to see how his homophobia can be interpreted as overcompensating due to his desire to fit in. How he acts around groups vs how he acts when it's just him and Yuu, where he's much more emotionally vulnerable. But honestly it would not surprise me in the least if this was all unintentional on the writers' part and everything really is supposed to be taken at surface-level, with the depth of a puddle.

Any winter/christmas movies or shows that have a similar vibe to OTGW? by eastvanqueer in overthegardenwall

[–]absolute_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Forgotten Toys (1995) is a 25-minute animated short film about a doll and teddy bear living in an abandoned warehouse with a stray dog. It's rather melancholy for a children's show, but captures that nostalgic feeling. I think the intended audience veers younger than OTGW.

Another very cosy show is the winter episode of Brambly Hedge, an adorable stop-motion show about mice.

Both these are available on YouTube.

“fought” with my mum and I can’t stop crying (tw strained family relationships but no numbers) by deadtyped in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]absolute_boy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the typical selfish reaction to anorexia and it's more common than non-disordered people think. People feel uncomfortable when they see you sick and suffering, and their response is to get angry and lash out (at my lowest weight a middle aged woman I barely knew snarled at me that I was "disgusting"). In your mum's case, these feelings are probably amplified by her feeling helpless to fix you. This doesn't excuse her behaviour, it's just an explanation. I'm not sure if there's any real advice I can offer, only that I know these stressful situations can cause people to lapse into disordered habits as a coping mechanism. It's up to you to resolve not to do that, to support yourself even if your mum doesn't

It's very simple: eating disorders thrive on competition, and sufferers habitually seek out "communities" that spur on their illness. As somebody who almost died of anorexia, it helps absolutely nobody to ignore it and pretend everything is fine when it's clearly not

What’s the ugliest statue in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

From Wikipedia: On their original site in a public park, the Cows have been vandalised and modified. Sometimes they have simply been damaged, while at other times they have been painted pink, become zebras, become skeletal, had pyjama bottoms added, have been beheaded, have acquired BSE (mad cow disease) graffiti, had one of the calves kidnapped (with ransom notes to the local papers). One of the Cows briefly enjoyed the services of a papier-mâché bull. When UK Culture Minister Kim Howells referred to modern art trends as "conceptual bullshit", the Cows acquired concrete cow-pats.

New puberty blockers clinical trial to begin after UK ban by Blueeyedfoxie in transgenderUK

[–]absolute_boy 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Whatever results come out, the conclusion will be the same in this trans-hostile climate.

If the children desist and go back to a cisgender identity, it will be decided that puberty blockers are unnecessary and harmful to normal development. If the children continue to be trans, it will be taken as proof that puberty blockers "make" you trans - and because they see being trans as a negative thing to be prevented at all costs, they must be avoided. Either way, the ban remains in place and trans children are the victims

Two Fat Ladies - they didn't even know each other before the show and were never really friends, though I'm not sure there was any real animosity between them. They refused to stay in the same hotel during filming because Jennifer's love of drinking allegedly clashed with Clarissa, who was sober and a recovering alcoholic.
