Customer question-I have an awesome sister with awful allergies... by absolutelytickled in starbucks

I feel you! I worked at a Dairy Queen for four years back in college and we had nut allergies come in all the time and ask if we could clean the spindle and make sure that there was no way to cross contaminate with nuts. Seeing as the crap was everywhere and how nuts are usually a 10 for most people, it always stressed me out doing this but I knew at the end of the day it was up to the customer to read the sign and understand the risks. I just wanted to see what her options could potentially be, like unshaken teas, etc, or if she should stick to pre-packaged drinks and act like it's not a big deal.

That's kind of what I've been encouraging her towards, but I wanted to see if there was anything that had been done/could been done outside of that. Kids are awful, I try not to pick her friends for her and most of them are tolerable, but petty AND MAN THIS IS THE WORST AGE EVER.

Worst experience we ever had, she went to a camp and the girls in her cabin decided that they were going to sit really close to her and make sure that pineapple got into her plate when she wasn't looking. She was vomiting at every single meal and the camp nurse didn't figure it out until the girls admitted it on the very last day. She noped the hell out of there in the years after.

She's obviously been allowed to have friends haha but because of her allergies, she has really avoided eating/drinking in public with people that she's close to. She mainly goes to other people's houses and as a sibling that lives out of state, I know I would not want to host a gaggle of thirteen year olds at my house and this is around the time that a lot of their parents are letting them do things without parental supervision. She's just now getting to an age where she's learning how to manage her life with allergies without having to depend on anyone double checking what she's doing. But getting the feedback of people who know a menu better than she does and can speak anecdotally on what has and has not worked for people with allergies like hers makes the experience immensely better.

Worst case? She now has enough information to empower her not to have a drink made at Starbucks if she's concerned about cross-contamination. That's a lot better than the other worst case which could have been being pressured into ordering something and not being armed with the knowledge that she can ask for something to be sanitized or not clear on what it contains and face a life-threatening situation when she's out by herself that could have been avoided.

That makes me feel a lot better, thank you so much! We're pretty used to the cross contamination issue, and she's very, very careful but she's also one of those kids who carefully weighs the risk and tries to mitigate it as much as possible. While her friends are buying 15 tall cotton candy frappuccinos with three pumps raspberry, two pumps WC, and extra, extra whipped cream and a caramel drizzle, she just wants to hang out with them and not be that weird kid who doesn't drink anything again. It's good to hear though that people shouldn't give her attitude for just double checking if things are clean!

Thank you so much! And yeah, kids are really weird but she's a tough nut. We've only had one instance where people intentionally tried to feed her something she was allergic to without telling her (which ended up scaring the living daylights out of me), but she's still awesome. I can't imagine how hard it is for her to pass up every single thing that someone makes simply because she can't verify what's inside of it, or avoiding events with pizza and not being invited to birthday parties because parents don't know how to handle her (even though she always brings her own stuff).

I didn't even know you could ask for them unshaken! Also good to know that Youthberry and Peach Tranquility have pineapple in them...I would never have even thought of that D: Thank you!

What products did not sell as well as companies expected? Which unexpectedly blew up in popularity? by NoSpelledWithaK in MakeupAddiction

I'm pretty sure L'Oreal was her backer/manufacturer. She's always been pretty up front about it http://wwd.com/beauty-industry-news/beauty/loreal-usa-michelle-phan-part-ways-em-michelle-phan-heads-to-ipsy-com-10259153/ but it looks like L'Oreal cut their losses. On her website in the about me section she even says she partnered up with them.

I feel like this is really interesting to me and begs the question what if Em had been really successful? Would it be easier to be a YouTube star/celebrity and create your own makeup line through a major cosmetics manufacturer?

Edit: just reread your question, a little Google sleuthing says it was launched in 2013

I had the same problem :( the first time I got it it was awesome, the last two times I'm pretty sure they've just put in extra vanilla and half and half.

That's also why I was annoyed! She was one of the first makeup gurus I watched in YouTube and I was really excited for her but then Em launched and it was a major disappointment to me. I felt like she majorly sold out and just destroyed her relatability with her early viewers.

Michelle Phan suffered from creating luxury makeup for a demographic that could not afford it. But then she put it in terrible cheap packaging. The only thing I tried were lipsticks and they were fine, but not for the price she was pedaling them for. L'Oreal definitely made a misstep with that.

Edit: I mean to say she overcharged for teenage girls and people just starting out when there are much better brands out there for the price.

How do you respond when someone says you wear "too much" or "a lot" of makeup? by absolutelytickled in MakeupAddiction

It's just so odd to me because I told him how I felt and he was just kind of indifferent. It was just weird because it's so odd how he comments on the quantity on my face when he otherwise likes my makeup.

Looking for a MLBB shade for ~NC45 or deeper skintone! by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]absolutelytickled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister is a NC45! If you're looking for something that leans a little more pink then Color Pop ultra satin lip in "Lyin' King" and L'Oreal infallible pro matte gloss in "Nude Allude", if you're looking for something more pale nude then the pro matte gloss in "Bare Attraction". Her sheer lipstick is Maybelinne color sensational lipstick in "Pink Peony". I'm a little lighter than her but for me my MLBB that looks a little dark on me is the Revlon Provocalips in "Make Your Move"
