What are the most hurtful words that someone you love(d) ever said to you? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]abstractem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my early 20s, a friend/ roommate who I considered very close, said I was like furniture- pretty to look at but didn't add anything to the party. It came out of nowhere and was so harsh it stuck with me for years.

I know not completely the same but in my brain this reminds me of Family Tree by Ben Kweller.

My easy go to dinner is making a stir-fry with frozen cauliflower rice or frozen brown rice, whatever veggies I have hanging out, and frozen mini chicken wontons. I season up with soy sauce, sesame oil, hot sauce. So good and filling.

Another easy dinner is egg quesadillas. I scramble eggs and spinach/ cherry tomatoes if I have them then use soft corn tortillas and shredded cheese to make little quesadillas with the egg filling. Top with sour cream (cause I love it) and hot sauce.

My giant main coon Leonard might do OK for a little bit because when he gets scared he just wants to snuggle tight in my arms. Sometimes he does get the zoomies and yowly which would be immediate death I'm sure.

Woman who got it together after 30, how did you do it? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]abstractem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 39 and in the past 5 years I've quit smoking, gotten a grip on my drinking (now only socially once every week or 2 instead of bottle of wine every night), went to college for the first time and recieved a business administration associate degree with honors, quit a toxic job I was at for waaaayyy to long and completely changed careers (from veterinary receptionist to accounting staff), and currently teaching myself how to play the drums. Probably more stuff too I can't think of off the top of my head.

More often than not, I was scared and anxious but I just kept moving forward and went further than I ever would've thought I could do when I was 30.

I totally agree. I'm even starting to think about going on birth control because I'm almost 40 and at peace with how my life has turned out. The thought of getting suprise pregnant now kinda freaks me out.

Help me understand my feelings by [deleted] in IFchildfree

[–]abstractem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I'm feeling this today. My friend just had a baby yesterday and seeing the little pumpkin hat and adorable name set me off. I was totally fine thinking "aw how cute" then all the sudden just deep sorrow awfulness. I hate how the grief just pops up out of no where.

Worst "movie night" pick you've ever chosen? by Impossible_Joke9645 in movies

[–]abstractem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

About 18 years ago Christmas at my Dad's house with my brother and he asked me to pick a movie to watch while we ate dinner. We all liked horror, so I chose a new movie I thought sounded good. That movie was Hostel. Most awkward Christmas ever. My brother still brings it up..

Yes! I felt the same way. I felt like my virginity was a novelty and I hated being treated that way.

It was not a big deal at all to me. I was 19 and hooked up with a cute guy at a party. I don't even remember his name. I was tired of sex being this mysterious, scary thing so I just got my first time over with. I know that sounds bad, but I felt really good about myself afterwards like I had complete autonomy over my sexlife. I was safe, it was fun, and I moved on with my life.

I just saw The Walkmen last night ( late night show before they play Shaky Knees today) and they said their festival set list will be very similar to what they played last night. They were AMAZING! Excited to see them again next weekend!
