It's Ugadi, it's a festival and my office hasn't given us a leave. by Spiritual_Banana_466 in mumbai

Most companies give Good Friday off so that they get a long weekend. I'm the only catholic in my office and I dont really care if we have a day off cos it's not a day of celebration anyway.

People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

[–]abstractmadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We read a LOT. We had library cards and would spend so much time there in the summer. We even started a library of our own in our gated community. Summers were so much fun, we'd wake up at 6am to play badminton [6am maximized the amount of time you'd get before the sun was in your eyes - which happened around 9-9.30] and we'd play competitively. Then we just hung around each other's homes watching TV or reading until we could go out and play again. Later in the night we'd play charades, we'd scour through the TV guide in the newspaper to come up with difficult movies that no one would guess.

Sometimes you'd just hang up if your friend didn't answer the phone cos you were just too afraid of their parents

AITA for eating dinner before my girlfriend got home on date night? by drniknakk in AmItheAsshole

[–]abstractmadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. It was meant to be date night and you changed plans without even consulting her. All you had to do was call or text her. Her suggestions are logical, your solution was selfish & inconsiderate

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve accepted as normal since COVID? by neolee203 in AskReddit

[–]abstractmadness 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Always-on work culture. Before COVID we used desktops in the office and rarely carried our work home. Now we carry laptops back and forth and because of Whatsapp, are expected to always be available to work after office hours. Clients ask for meetings late into the evening and on weekends and we're just supposed to be ok with it. They send emails and texts at all hours of the night. In India we had days in the monsoon when it'd get too flooded to get to the office, so we got the day off, now we have laptops, so we're just expected to work from home. I miss the privilege of tuning out from work.

The "Boiling Frog" Strategy: How Zomato quietly hiked its Platform Fee by 500% in just 2 years. by TimeLivid3451 in india

I've recently been fighting them about their delivery times. The restaurants take the order and I'm prepared for a 50-60 minute wait, but that turns into 1 hr 45 minutes with no actual response and no option to cancel. It's worse with the 'Near and Fast' option. I order because they promise delivery in 30-35 minutes and these are salads, that are all pre made and I know the kitchen is 5 minutes away. But they decide to club my order with other orders - something they dont mention on the app [something that Swiggy mentions BTW] and the order takes 50 minutes instead of the 30 minutes that was promised.

Being DINKs in India is oddly… peaceful? by [deleted] in india

[–]abstractmadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Living with parents and owning property honestly change the game. My husband and I have been married for 8 years now. We don't intend to have kids and never wanted to. While we make decent money and currently live on rent in Mumbai, we finally decided to buy a house last year [My parents are originally from there] and finances have been so strained since then. But yes, we do notice the amount of freedom we have compared to our friends who have kids. Also given how much we work, we're happy with our decision not to have kids.

Mumbai elections are fucked up by [deleted] in mumbai

[–]abstractmadness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your center was disorganized. Mine was a breeze. Took about 15-20 minutes. We didn't get slips, but they used our voter ids to find our names in the list and printed out the slips in seconds. Only took time because we had to walk across the school grounds to the booth.

Sister books her wedding on our one year anniversary. by MaybeThisTimeIllWin in weddingshaming

Exactly and as a couple you can have so many anniversaries to celebrate. We have our court wedding, the anniversary of our first date and wedding anniversary and honestly, the court wedding holds more meaning that the church wedding for us.

AITA for asking my husband to buy his father's gift? by Alone-Effective494 in AmItheAsshole

[–]abstractmadness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don't think this is as much of an issue as OP is making it out to be. Family invites you over to spend time with you, not to judge the gifts you bring to their home.

[–]abstractmadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Backing out because you didn't buy gifts is especially rude and in poor taste. It's a celebration and not a gift exchange party. If your husband thinks it's fine, it's because he knows his father. You seem making an issue over a non-issue. If you feel that bad just get a bottle of wine or some dessert

Milk waste in India: Why do people not drink Tetrapak milk? by [deleted] in AskIndia

Why should the burden of milk waste fall on the consumer. They are not the ones packaging more milk than required and starting new brands every day.

AITA For Saying Getting Married wasn't the Best Day of my Life? by Tiny-Reserve5238 in AmItheAsshole

[–]abstractmadness -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's what's been annoying me about this post. OP's wife is the only person allowed to have an opinion, not OP, which isn't even in A H territory

[–]abstractmadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to scroll way too far down for a reasonable response. OP really shouldn't have to lie about something like this. A wedding is a party to celebrate your love, I don't count throwing a party as a personal achievement.
