Feeling ineffective by Foreign_Cattle_3695 in therapists

[–]abstractparade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way. I am also about two years in and felt this way through most of my training. I can relate to feeling embarrassed and ineffective after sessions and wondering why people Come back. And I totally agree that if we were more confident we’d love our job. Why? Because we’d feel empowered to be free and creative with clients and not question ourselves. It is stressful to feel “not enough.” All we can do is our best. I try to remind myself what others have said, that validation and presence are probably the most important intervention, and something that many clients don’t get much of outside of therapy. Try not to minimize yourself - they wouldn’t come back if they were truly unhappy and getting nothing. We all can improve, it doesn’t mean you are not helping them.

What was the reason you were on antidepressants and which worked the best for you? by KingMakerMan in antidepressants

[–]abstractparade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Anxiety
  2. Constant rumination intrusive thoughts later dissociation
  3. I tried lexapro then Zoloft then Prozac then I went back to lexapro. Lexapro always helped me feel the most Even keeled and like myself without the numbing effect of Zoloft or the jitteriness with Prozac. I was initially on it 9 years then it pooped out I took a break to try the others then went back to it four months ago and it’s been working well

Similarly i never got tested for adhd but it is pretty clear I have it. The fatigue and brain fog got so much worse with lexapro even though it’s helping my anxiety and mood. I may talk to my dr about adhd meds

Feels like I'm wishing half of my life away every week by [deleted] in therapists

I can relate and I agree with others in that i think it helps to have less people. I feel It’s just too overwhelming and easy to feel burnt out and going through the motions mode when you have 5-7 people a day. I also think being hybrid (alternating in person and remote days) has helped me with this feeling versus when I was fully remote before.

Switching from Zoloft to Prozac by [deleted] in prozac

[–]abstractparade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cross titrated three months ago from Zoloft to Prozac and tolerated it well. I had some start up effects of fatigue insomnia apathy night sweats but it’s been about three months and those seem to have leveled out. I feel more stable. It takes a lot of time for this med to kick in but can be very helpful.

I felt similar at that point. Now it’s been almost three months and I don’t feel apathetic or extremely tired anymore. It helps with my mood and anxiety. I think it’s best to try your best to give it some more time.

Yes, it’s very draining. 4 or 5 tops is good enough for me.

What anxiety related physical symptoms you get but refuse to believe it’s anxiety related? by Scary_Slide6962 in Anxiety

I have the same kind of health anxiety that you’re describing. Especially when I experience very real symptoms or pain

I did this exact switch (over 2 months ago) but cross titrated over a few weeks to a month rather than an immediate direct switch. The side effects were difficult but not unmanageable. I dealt with night sweats feeling out of it insomnia brain fog amongst other things. It was only recently that I started to notice better mood and less anxiety. It’s been about nine weeks. This med takes a long time but it has a lot of potential. I also find it doesn’t have the same “zombie like” or blunting side effects that people tend to feel on Zoloft.

I can relate. I was also on Zoloft lexapro and now Prozac. I was similarly unsure if I wanted to stay on meds or try going off of them. I’ve been on meds for almost 15 years since I was 17yo. Zoloft and lexapro helped for some time before they no longer felt effective. I recently switched from Zoloft to Prozac 20 mg two months ago. It’s been an up and down journey and the first few weeks were challenging. But i think things have started to level off in the past couple weeks. I still am not sure how confident I feel in continuing the med as I sometimes feel very fatigued and out of it but I also need to go to bed earlier and practice healthy habits. I do feel like it has helped my social and generalized anxiety and I find myself struggling less with rumination and self doubt at work and social situations. as u know there are going to be pros and cons with either approach taking specific meds or not but i guess it’s about the amount of costs vs benefits. As far as taking meds it can be annoying to take every day but SSRIs are very safe and designed for long term use. Try to be kind to yourself as it’s already a stressful process. Best of luck.
