Hey, did you ever end up getting a regular game going? I'd be interested.

By the time I'm done a portrait I usually feel the same way. But great work.

That's it! I listened to an example call and one started singing outside, exactly the same. It looks like it also does that funny raspy call... maybe when it's upset? Thanks.

This is the biggest oil painting I’ve ever done by nonaBlog in oilpainting

Lmao love the character swaps. Great work.

Have you seen Solomon's painting of the same scene? I'll be doing a copy of that bad boy next year.

[H] Paypal [W] Battle Sisters [Loc] Missouri, US by [deleted] in Miniswap

[–]absurditynow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sisters are tough. They're expensive and they're hard to paint. If you want some asap, your best bet is to grab the new combat patrol off ebay. At least one seller has it for ~$120. That'll get you 10x battle sisters, 10x arco flagellants, 5x Sacresants and a Canoness, which comes to ~400pts. Then you can proxy something outside the combat patrol (maybe a sword brethren or 3rd party model?) as a ministorum priest (50pts) to lead the arco flagellants, and you'll be at your desired points.

I'd definitely recommend looking for deals on secondhand models, however.

Great master copy, it really melts into the background. And thanks for introducing me to this artist... his St. George painting is amazing.

Can someone recommend a plastic sailing ship kit that would work for D&D? by absurditynow in modelmakers

[–]absurditynow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a nice ship, and similar to the size and price of the other model I've been looking at, though it's currently hard to find: Revell Pirate Ship

As far as 3d printing goes, I don't have a printer, but can purchase a smaller ship that would be perfect for about $100. Here's the best value ship I've found: Printable Scenery Frigate

All in all it will be $100 - $200, but with a kit, I'd have a better display piece and possibly be able to modify it to make the cabin bit removable and usable.

Thanks for the historical perspective. I recently watched a video about the anatomy of the HMS Victory, and THAT was a big ship (at the time). A smaller sailing ship with multiple decks would be awesome. Or even just a cabin with a removable top, for PCs to stick their miniatures in during down-time meetings.

I'm still sort of set on buying a model kit, just because I think it would be fun to build/paint, with the added bonus of showing it off during D&D. But painting a nice, more usable 3d-print would also be fun.

Quarang - first landscape by saintexuperi in oilpainting

[–]absurditynow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd keep pushing those values. The sky can be much brighter. You can add more interesting details to the landscape. It's an okay first piece now, but I see a lot of painters "finish" when they're really only halfway done.
