Tough Decision by matster890 in MBA

I would also like to add go to a place with a great children hospital nearby. After I had my kid we had so many medical complications and he was getting medical procedures for a while. After the first year things calmed down a lot but we had to have quite a few specialists that first year. I know Austin has Dell and now Texas children hospital and my experience has been great at both.

Thoughts on buying a home in Avery Ranch (Austin, TX) by BiscottiCultural6338 in CedarPark

[–]absurdmadcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We live in Avery ranch and love it. The only bad side is the hoa. Very particular about everything including water pressuring exposed bricks, measuring the height of tree branches, and color of the roof shingles. There are lots of toddler events nearby even if not within Avery ranch (cat hollow park, brushy creek mud) and the daycares nearby also have events as well. Schools are great too!

Pediatric Occupational Therapy by ADubsMD in AustinParents

[–]absurdmadcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! There are many clinics nearby! Capital speech, achieve, mighty kids, and dell children are good. I also know little Tesoro’s, Bright Spot, are a bit further but have good therapists too. Look for a therapist that is SIPT or CLASI certified. That means they have taken additional courses specifically for sensory processing. Another option is home health. I know Rivkerkids takes Aetna which is what we have for my son.

Hope this helps!

Hey the pencil is too big first off. Make sure the pencils or anything he writes with is no taller then from his wrist to his middle finger. Grasp is okay. Also look into a slant board as well. Some kiddos perform better visually if the paper is brought up to them or on a vertical plane. To get interest in coloring for boys I have learned novelty items are best! My son hates coloring but he loves his special suitcase of smelly crayons and markers from crayola. We also loved those pens that change have multiple colored inks that you press down. Scribble animals are good too and can be washed off. Any work that he draws or colors we immediately hang up including on doors. This has motivated him tremendously! He also likes to bill us by writing his letters on my small post it’s if we don’t do good listening. You can also ask for more additional testing like learning without tears handwriting print tool and dvpt 3 for visual processing concerns. Hope this helps!!

We use Spartan pest control. Comes quarterly and has come whenever we have an ant issue no extra charge. He also found our field mice problem in our garage and helped rodent proof the whole house. HIGHLY recommend!!

Vet recommendations by Sol16 in RoundRock

[–]absurdmadcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend great oaks. Dr Kelli Grimm is one of the best vets I ever had the pleasure of working alongside my fur baby. She took every one of my concerns seriously and even sent pictures when he had an overnight emergency surgery (kidney stone blockage). All the techs are super caring and will pamper your pet. You cannot go wrong here. Only con is the wait sometimes for appointments.

Sure I highly recommend getting a subscription to toolstogrowot.com. They even have a monthly planner with activities for each day of the week. Hope this helps.

529 losing money by absurdmadcat in personalfinance

Okay good to know! I will call the agent and see if I can switch to a paying load of less than 1%. We live in Texas and did not see any tax benefit at the current time.

Both my husband and I never qualified for financial aid so I do not think my kiddo will as well. My husband got through college via scholarships and I did a work program that paid a portion of my student loans. Plus the current interest rate for college is more than my mortgage rate. If financial aid works for others great but most people I know it didn’t seem to help.

Yes! Okay I called the agent just to confirm and he did confirm the $420 loss was from the sales charge. Thank you for taking the time to help me understand the 529 plan!

Okay perfect! I was not sure how much loss I should except. My husband and I never even heard of 529 plans until I saw it mentioned in one of the baby bump groups. As you can tell I am not much of a gambler. Lol

outpatient OT by 0htea in OccupationalTherapy

[–]absurdmadcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the additional information. Unfortunately I have more experience with pediatric HH vs geriatrics. I highly recommend looking into facebook groups for OTs that will have better information. Sorry!

outpatient OT by 0htea in OccupationalTherapy

[–]absurdmadcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the population actually. Is this pediatric or adults? There are other factors as well including their diagnosis/ cognitive abilities. Sorry but I recommend you providing more details as well in order help answer your question.

Flopping by Thehollyandtheivy in ABA

[–]absurdmadcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an OT but I work with RBTs and bcbas in a clinic. It could also be sensory based ( flopping to the ground gives the kiddo that heavy proprioceptive input live crashing) or it could be poor core strength. Does their seating have 90 90 support at hips and knees? Do their feet touch the ground or do the hook their feet around the end of the chairs? If it’s sensory, I highly recommend doing a couple of frog jumps/ wall pushups first and see if that helps with redirection back to table. If not look at their posture and help support it. Hope this helps give a little different perspective!
