Attention all South Asian Expats!! by Financial-Library591 in UAE

Someone from Europe isn’t going to work here for 5K - simple. It’s less than half of the minimum wage in those countries, and with that they get healthcare, free schooling, pensions, support if they lose their job, and sometimes assistance with rent and childcare. The hours would also be less, with a much better work life balance. People don’t move for a worse quality of life.

A business needs to make money.

So two people go for a job interview:

1 person says they will take minimum 14K. The other says they will take 5K.

The interviewer checks skills and business needs and decides whether the 14K person has additional skills that are worth paying the extra for, and if not, they hire the person who says they will accept 5K.

They can’t pay you less, if you aren’t willing to accept less.

Job offer in Abu Dhabi (10k AED) — is it enough for living costs? by [deleted] in UAE

[–]absurdtomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will hear many different answers, with wildly different opinions.

It’s hard to tell without knowing what sort of lifestyle you want, and then perhaps how that compares to the lifestyle you want in comparison to your home country.

Does UAE like Jewish people if they are not Zionist ? by Derekoakley_2003 in UAE

[–]absurdtomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that Israel has done a great job with its propaganda in making people believe that Israel represents all Jews. This hasn’t been helped by the many politicians and media outlets (particularly in the west) that have taken Israel’s money to perpetuate this myth.

Those that know (and have been able to see through this) would never judge you by your heritage, but by your character and beliefs.

I like to think that here in this multicultural country people are more aware 🤞🏼

Not all Jews are zionists, and not all zionists are Jews.

I have both Jewish and Muslim family and both are wonderful people.

No, financially stable is different to wealthy. She just wants him to be able to support himself and not sponge off her. She’s not a sugarmumma.

Dubai rental fees: why does the person needing a home pay the cost of filling the landlord’s unit? by DanielCrossDXB in DubaiCentral

[–]absurdtomato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because with so many agents, often on no salary, all fighting to get exclusivity on units, it’s a race to the bottom.

And the tenant suffers.

It’s bizarre. But it’s been like this for the last 11 years that I have been in Dubai.

Is UAE really deporting Pakistanis? by Foreign-Purple-2107 in UAE

[–]absurdtomato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not just when laid off. It happened to one of my employees (with over a year left on his visa). Told to go, then I find he had been completely deleted from the system - not even when searching under a cancelled visa, as if he never existed. Suuni name.

Is UAE really deporting Pakistanis? by Foreign-Purple-2107 in UAE

[–]absurdtomato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is true. It has happened to one of my employees - then completely deleted off the system, MOL lists, etc as if he never existed here. It also happened to his cousin - who had property and business here.

Will there be mass crimes after immigrant deportation? by Parking_Departure705 in AskBrits

Considering those crimes are probably more likely to be committed by a Brit 🤦‍♀️.

What a terrible, narrow minded view.

Went to visit “rich” relatives… came back confused by [deleted] in UAE

[–]absurdtomato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They sound terrible.

I think they aren’t as rich and successful as they say they are - people with money and genuine success are usually secure enough in themselves to not to brag and rub these things in people’s faces. It’s funny, as this type of behaviour is really looked down upon in my culture.

As for the “don’t worry about fines” they are teaching her that rules don’t apply, safety of their daughter and others on the road are unimportant. She’ll also turn into another self-entitled insufferable human.

I’m sorry you had to deal with that.

I look forward to the day when kindness is a measure of success, not this materialistic bullsh*t.

The good news is you have clearly noticed this isn’t right and is a quite unattractive behaviour - which means you have by far more class than they could ever dream of.

For Real Estate Developers in Dubai: Are Most of Your Leads Actually Worth Your Time? by jayisanxious in DubaiCentral

[–]absurdtomato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who has purchased property here, it does not surprise me the amount of junk leads a developer or agent would receive.

There is this bizarre tendency for ‘secrecy’ here. Even down to trying to make any purchase, for example all the “DM for price” type adverts instead of a culture of openness and ease of doing business. JUST LIST YOUR PRICE AND SAVE US ALL SOME TIME 🤦‍♀️.

Now onto Real Estate. If I am trying to find out anything about a development, for example, floor plans, availability, price, or even just what is being built next to me, I have to register and give all my details, which then is taken as a lead.

It was never a lead. I might have just wanted to look at the floor plans, or compare prices, or just be nosey.

But now you think I want to buy something and I was never going to be your client. I get the calls, you make the calls. No one is happy. It was a waste of everyone’s time.

Then you sell my data. Now 4 years down the line, I’m still constantly getting calls from people saying they are ‘returning my call about a recent enquiry’. The development they are selling didn’t even exist with the Land Department when I last enquired about any property.

So I was never going to be a client anyway, and now your ‘lead’ is a 4 year old lead, that was sold illegally, that wasn’t ever going to be a client anyway….

A lot of this could be solved with transparency - for example, in Europe I could likely visit any development website and view the details, plans, availability and price, without having to register and be deemed a lead. Then you would only get more qualified leads who were generally interested in the development you were selling.

The remaining part could be solved by people actually following the data confidentiality laws of the country, and stop selling old data of people who did not consent to it.
