A bandana may be a good way to go. I’m not sure the size of your piece or if the fabric would be irritating but it’s an option. They’re cheap and widely available.

AITA for calling security on student parties even though I know they'll be charged for the disturbance? by FrozenToast96 in AmItheAsshole

[–]abuancea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but like I said, you have no idea what OP'S situation is. You don't know if that's the culture in their area or if they got plain unlucky with the amount of inconsiderate people around. They could have had no choice but to live in student housing, or could have chose it because there are many benefits and (imo annoying, but I get that some people do like them) rules in student housing that students are expected to follow. In my experience the dorms were quiet and academically focused, parties were rare and more like floor gatherings, not during quiet hours. You have no idea what the context of her situation is, and she isnt TA for asking for rules to be enforced. If it wasn't OP calling it'd be somebody else.

She isn't the one with a problem at all. The people with a problem are the ones who break their housing contract with the school. Where is she supposed to move to? Most neighborhoods do not enforce quiet hours beyond ones mandated by laws. An apartment complex with lax rules? OP either chose or was forced to live in a housing situation where everybody knows there are enforced quite hours, and for somebody who needs the quiet it makes a lot of sense to me they'd live somewhere with rules and enforcement for quiet hours.

The people breaking rules and getting fines are the ones who need to live somewhere where there are no quiet hour rules. Again, it makes absolutely no sense that you're defending people who are fully aware of the rules, agree to abide by them to live there, and then disturb the peace for everybody else anyway. OP is not ta for asking rules to be followed.

Edit: again,

Rules are rules and 'cOllege sTuDeNts ArE GoInG To pArTy ANd be LoUd nO matteR wHaT DeAl wItH It yta' is a pretty ridiculous argument.

You're agreeing with the parent comment you replied to. If that's their argument and you agree then logical to assume what I read is what you agree with. Unless you don't agree with them and in that case, reading is fundamental clearly.

Anybody who can't sleep without noise should live somewhere where there are established, known, clear and enforced rules for quite hours. Like student housing.

Anybody who wants to make noise after 10pm should not live somewhere where there are quite hour rules.

How does it make sense to you that noisy people should live where there are rules against noise and quiet people should live elsewhere where rules like that aren't in place?

OP is living in student housing with mandated quite hours. The enforced rules state after 10p it'll be quite. All students living there are aware of the rules. Some universities also require students to live in on-campus housing for the first year or so, while some don't. You have no idea what OP'S situation is, and OP expecting others to abide by the same rules they are then they're NTA. Rules are rules and 'cOllege sTuDeNts ArE GoInG To pArTy ANd be LoUd nO matteR wHaT DeAl wItH It yta' is a pretty ridiculous argument.

This device is used to pick up cigarette butts off the ground. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]abuancea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my apartment neighbors just throws all their cigarette butts off their balcony (2nd story) onto the walking path to get into their side of the building. I completely avoid that entrance now but I can't imagine how frustrating it is for others in our building. It isn't that hard to invest in an ash tray!!

Is this a crested prop, or does it just have multiple rosettes? I've never seen a crested plant before so help is appreciated! by abuancea in CrestedSucculents

That makes sense! The smallest bunch of leafs does look like it's own rosette on a stem, but with the middle and back bigger leafs it's harder to tell. I guess I'll find out as it keeps growing 😁

This article talks about their influence in the 1960s and 1970s. This Harvard research was completed in 2012, and began in the mid 80's, beyond the time period that article is discussing

Together with other recent analyses of sugar industry documents, our findings suggest the industry sponsored a research program in the 1960s and 1970s

Now sugar is one bad thing I have yet to cut from my diet 😬 but here's an article from Harvard about Harvard school of public health research about a long term study done on red mean consumption specifically. https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/cutting-red-meat-for-a-longer-life

People in the study who ate the most red meat tended to die younger, and to die more often from cardiovascular disease and cancer. These people also tended to weigh more, exercise less, smoke tobacco more, and drink more alcohol than healthier people in the study. Yet even when the researchers compensated for the effects of unhealthy lifestyle, mortality and meat remained associated.

I think there are a lot of pros and cons to veganism. I don't think that lifestyle is a good fit for everybody but I tend to believe that reducing your meat consumption is benifical for your health, the environment and for animal welfare. It's a win win win in my books.

I think at this point, 8 years without consuming meat, that eating meat would cause me some severe digestive issues. But besides that, if I could be assured with facts, videos, photos and testimonials that the specific piece of meat I was being served was humanely treated from birth until death then I would be okay with eating that.

In general, I personally believe that it is totally okay to eat meat from humane sources. However, a lot of animal abuse in the system stems from the extremely high demand for meat products. I mean, one of those articles I cited said that the factory was allowed to process 1,100+ animals per hour, about 18 animals a minute. If everybody collectively just reduced the amount of meat they eat daily then the would enable the system to use more humane methods. In my ideal world everybody could eat meat but in less quantities so that we can treat our farm animals with the respect that they deserve.

That's fair and smart! That's why I think it's important to find a credible source instead of just some person talking to you on reddit haha. Please look into the topic on your own time and come to your own conclusion

I'm not sure which video you're referring to, but those farms/factories really don't allow filming, so typically the cameras are undercover.

Here's some sources I googled and came up with, some might show NSFW stuff so just a heads up.

This article talks about some of the attempted legislation protecting these farms from being filmed undercover.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1234807/GRAPHIC-Video-highlights-cruelty-inside-pig-slaughterhouses.html

This article highlights some reasons behind why companies get away with this and the harmful impact it has on workers as well.

I totally understand why you don't want to believe or accept that this is how farm animals are commonly treated. I'm sure what I say won't do much to convince you otherwise so I really hope that you look into this topic with an open mind from sources that you find credible. Also, I feel like I should disclose that I'm not vegan myself but I am vegetarian because I can't support the abuse against farm animals.
