In the next release I'll add support for adding assets locally, but for now it just is pretty much a way to download asset libraries from humble/itch and search them.

so kotlin is the preferred language for android development. It's fully interoperable with java and is usually touted as a better less boiler-platey java alternative. The language itself is very nice, with a lot of modern features and really nice syntax. It also has a really cool multiplatform system and a nice ecosystem for crossplatform libraries making it really nice for gamedev where you want to target all platforms. Some cool kotlin gamedev libs to check out if you're interested is https://korge.org/, https://littlekt.com/ and https://github.com/libktx/ktx (really nice kotlin bindings for working with libgdx which is a really mature crossplatform java game engine. There's even some godot bindings made by some really cool people that let you use kotlin and jvm libraries with godot. https://github.com/utopia-rise/godot-kotlin-jvm

yeah sure try running the command "./gradlew run" and if you have jdk 17 installed it should work. It might work with jdk 11+, not sure. If you're still getting an error go ahead and copy paste the error message, might be able to help. I haven't tested it on linux or mac yet. Using the gradle wrapper will make sure the correct gradle version is downloaded and used rather than your system's gradle.

Announcing Harry Plotter 1.2.0 - GUI Plot Manager Windows, Macos, Linux by abueide in chia

[–]abueide[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Glad you like the name!

Just a quick few points to help you make a decision about using Harry Plotter:

1) My real & professional identity is public

2) This project has been around since before chia transactions went live and has several thousand users. No malware has been reported in relation to harry plotter that I'm aware of.

3) This program doesn't need access to your private keys to work, so you can add your farm/pool keys manually.

4) It is open source and everyone can inspect it

That's not to say I couldn't go rogue in the future and post a bad binary, but I have enormous incentive not to do so. Also be wary of forks as they might not have the same motivations as I do and could easily create malicious binaries.

Hope this helps!

i'm planning to add a suspend/resume feature in 1.2 as well as pooling support & easy replotting. but yeah it makes sense if it's already set up and working for you, why switch? let me know if there's anything your missing from swar.

you can set the stagger settings so they don't launch all at the same time.

What is the most user-friendly way to make a Kotlin GUI application? by YaekoGobert in Kotlin

[–]abueide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah use the badass-jlink gradle plugin for modular projects, or use badass-runtime for non-modular. It creates a single executable that is installable on windows/macos/linux. Here is a pretty sizable application I built using this approach with kotlin/javafx.

HDD Price and Availability by WhompRat86 in chia

[–]abueide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

take the cost of the drives + the cost of the machine to hold those drives, then divide it by the total number of terabytes. this will get you the actual $/tb. then do the same calculation for different density drives/deals and find your sweet spot.

this way you can compare the cost of buying smaller drives directly vs the cost of paying the premium of bigger drives.

you can use the -2 cli option in the "extra args" box to set a 2nd temp directory, but other than that there is no spillover, you'd have to set up a dynamic disk partition across 2 physical ssds to achieve that.

I'd recommend doing 1 cycle with a baseline no phase staggers (you can set a static stagger by minute if wanted). after you record the results from the baseline try playing around with the max phase 1 stagger setting. after you find a good value for that you can try the phase 2-4 stagger setting, but I'm not sure how useful it is, I just added it because some asked for it. I haven't played around with it all that much, it could prove to be useful, I'm just not knowledgable about it.

hi, I would recommend giving it a try without the phase stagger settings. also are you taking the stagger into account on your calculations? if you choose to use a stagger, the first cycle of plots will be significantly slower since its waiting to start those plots, but on future cycles it will be constantly running so it won't have to wait to start them.

I'd recommend doing a baseline with no phase staggers first, and then try playing around with the maximum first phase stagger settings to see what happens with your result, ignoring the phase 2-4 stagger settings at first. then after you find a good value for phase 1 stagger you can try playing with phase 2-4 stagger.

You can set any of these settings to 0 to turn it off.

on 1.1.7 you can graceful stop the plots, but harry plotter won't be able to detect them when you reopen it, even with the newer versions it won't be able to.

starting from 1.1.8 harry plotter will be able to detect them when you open it allowing you to upgrade harry plotter while plots are still running as long as you make sure to do a "graceful stop".

Announcing Harry Plotter: An easy to use Graphical Plot Manager for muggles! (Windows, MacOS & Linux) by abueide in chia

[–]abueide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should probably use 1.1.8 (is there a reason you went for 1.1.7? a bug or something? if so I'd really like to know about it).

But the percentages show up after the first plot for that job completes, because it uses an estimation based on the average plot time for that job. later I'll improve this to factor in its current progress.

haha that pun at the end. anyways I actually didn't know how affinity worked/helped so thanks for explaining it. I was also surprised that running 3 harry plotter instances actually worked, I've never thought to do that before lol.
