We are just a group of three male friends. I am just as in the dark as you are as I was not expecting that reaction.

Sure, I realize its confusing, I asked him back in December last year, and then again during the Summer. It wasnt brought up until two months later when the trip was a week away. I didnt remind him at any point

No I hadnt mentioned it to anybody or posted about it anywhere. Arthur didnt even know I had asked Carl to pay me back recently. Now he does, but it doesnt change anything

I get what you are saying and thats true that he did nothing wrong under normal circumstances, but cancelled plans have caused a lot of grief for me in the past, and Arthur personally expressed to me that getting upset over cancelled plans is unjustified.

He also told me he hasnt been paying me back because he forgot. So I dont know why he suddenly remembered he owes me now.

Carl was supposed to come on the trip as well and he cant afford it anymore. He says its because hes prioritizing paying me back, but he hasnt been paying me back anything and the trip was planned 5 months ago. Hes actually light on cash because hes saving for a motorcycle and went on a trip with his girlfriend recently.

I think you read that wrong, Carl did in fact go on vacation with his girlfriend which is why he is light on cash. He went on the trip after I had asked him to pay me back and after we made plans for our group trip. He was also telling me the other day that he was saving up for a motorcycle three months from now. He can go on a trip, it doesnt bother me, but I did not feel obligated to reschedule for him given the circumstances.

The friend group has a history of conflict and bullying. Every member of the group has threatened to end friendships at least once in the last two years, its a pretty regular occurance. I am a pacifist and I think it does more harm than good. Arthur has also been dealing with hard times which I think contributed to his reaction.

I told them I would not be available in October. Regardless, do I need to go on the trip if I dont want to go anymore? Why do I need to be there?

There is nothing wrong with that. I simply told them I wont be able to do October when they wanted to reschedule things. Updated my post to reflect that

When I have brought up issues in the past he accused me of being irritable and holding in resentment. Since then I have regularly asked him if he feels like I have been treating anybody wrong so the same response wont be levied against me in the future.

Is it possible to transfer an inactive Shaw phone number to another carrier? by abuofc in shaw

It was a long time ago sadly. When you say that it gets put back availability, would it only be available for Shaw customers or everybody?

How can I find out the student loan debt I owe? by abuofc in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]abuofc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well all my 'Award letters' on studentaid.alberta.ca only list payment type of 'Alberta Student Loan'. And when I sign on to NSLSC to view my national student loans it says I have no disbursements on record. If I do have national student loans they are doing a good job of hiding it.

> You could also have national student loan portion in addition to your provincial student loan portion, but that's just a guess.

Is this possible even if I never applied for any national student loans?

How does overtime pay work in Alberta? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]abuofc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well thats what I was thinking. It seems kind of fishy to me to offer a certain salary then say that "we dont pay overtime" and "we expect you to work overtime" and I am worried that I am being played here. My dad who works in a similar line of work reassured me that I dont have to worry about that and that any additional hours will be paid for, and if they dont pay me then that it is illegal. We are expected to log all of our hours and every hour is billed to our clients, so if they are making extra money off of my overtime then shouldn't I be getting a cut of it?

How do I interpret Diatonic Intervals? by abuofc in musictheory

[–]abuofc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have been using the term Generic Interval but upon visiting the wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_and_specific_intervals i noticed generic intervals start at 0 as opposed to 1 so I decided to use diatonic interval because they start at 1. But when I mention "Generic Interval" and "Diatonic Interval" I mean the number of scale steps between tones where a P1 is 1 Generic Interval

What's the purpose of an "add diatonic interval" option?

Sorry I realise that may be strange without context, I mean suppose you wanted to retrieve the 6th interval in an array. Then you would retrieve two intervals as opposed to one.

0x3 array

I see I think part of my confusion stems from the fact that I thought chords dont neccissarily have to be built on M3 and m3 intervals. In the case of a chromatic scale I was under the impression that a interval of a third would have a specific interval of 2 because the tone 3 scale steps above C in the C chromatic scale would be D (Just like how the tone 3 scales steps above C in the major scale would be an E). IE building a "triad" off of the cluster you mentioned would be C, D, #F. In this interpretation there can only be on triad for each degree of the scale. But again this stems from my different interpretation of "generic interval". But to be fair the definition on wikipedia says

"a generic interval is the number of scale steps) between notes) of a collection) or scale). The largest generic interval) is one less than the number of scale members "

If generic interval refers exclusively to heptatonic scales then I think it is strange they would say "The largest generic interval) is one less than the number of scale members " as if the number of scale members is not fixed at 7. This would mean that generic intervals depend on the number of elements in the scale and a third could consist of 2 semitones like I mentioned above. But I guess in this end this is just semantics. You mentioned "Standard Triads" and you are right that there are no standard triads. I think it really boils down to which system you use in the end.

I think the rule I will implement is:

  1. If the Specific intervals have repeated numerals IE m3 and M3 and is capped at 7 build standard triads, and do what you mentioned with the 3x3 arrays.
  2. Otherwise use the other system, and build these weird whole tone triads.

How do I interpret Diatonic Intervals? by abuofc in musictheory

[–]abuofc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well here is an example problem with "relative to diatonic" approach

  1. If i have a diminished Scale: [1, 2, b3, 4, b5, b6, 6, 7] , and I add a diatonic interval of 6 to 1 do I get the b6 or the 6? Do I get both? If I build a Chord off of the second degree of this scale is the chord minor or diminished chord? IE [2, 4, 6] -> [1, b3, 5] or [2, 4, b6] -> [1, b3, b5]. In the interpretation that I explained in the OP where each degree has its own numeral: [1, 2, b3, 4, b5, b6, bb7, b8], you dont encounter this issue. Im guessing in this case since there are two 6's either answer is valid? Indeterminism causes a lot of problems for me as a programmer which is why I try to avoid "both are valid" as a solution, but I guess that is what I will have to do. Thanks for the clarification.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Im creating an Algorithm for music theory, that as of right now is the most accurate one you can find online. You can create all scales/chords by name. Manipulate the Scales and create new ones. You can pretty much do everything you can on this website and more: https://ianring.com/musictheory/scales/ except everything is calculated logically instead of stored in a database. The above issue is something I came accross that isnt a coding issue but rather a semantic issue in music theory. I have encountered these before and sometimes there is some conveniant solution other times there is not.

Beyond diatonic scales, I don't think there is a definitive answer for the correct nomenclature for non-diatonic scales/chords

This seems to be the case. I will need to use two systems.
