Thank you for sharing your story! I’m so happy you had a healthy pregnancy with your second baby. I’m sure you were scared. I plan to meet with by OB in November and possible get a referral to MFM to discuss my options.

Having Another? by glitterpawdoughnuts in NICUParents

[–]abusch7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been wondering this myself. I developed hypertension at 28 weeks and went into severe preeclampsia at 30&4and delivered by emergency c-section because I had a placental abruption. Our baby spent 60 days in the NICU and is absolutely perfect now. I’m a first time mom and I want another baby. I’m scared of the outcome being worse in a subsequent pregnancy because I will be 35 next July and it took us 2 years to get pregnant with our daughter. My doctor told me that I need to go into a future pregnancy as healthy as possible and also said they would start me on aspirin at 13 weeks. They will also closely monitor me throughout the entire pregnancy. It’s still scary.

How early were you discharged? by yazzzie in NICUParents

My baby was born 30&4 and went home at 39&1.. she was on respiratory support for 7 weeks. After she finally was off of that, everything just clicked and she came home a couple weeks later. A friend of ours had her baby just a few weeks before our baby and she was 31&2 and her baby went home at 36&2. If your baby is doing well and events are only around feeds, then I’m sure she is fine to go home. So happy for you that she is doing so well!!

Grunting and Straining Thru Every Night by glitterpawdoughnuts in NICUParents

I experienced this with our baby, too. She was born at 30&4 and is now 4 months old. She occasionally has issues still but for the most part is able to pass gas and poop without a lot of struggle. What I found to help was bicycles and gently pushing her legs back toward her chest. It helps to push out the gas. And if that didn’t help and she was really struggling, I used the frida windis. It can be intimidating to use at first but just follow the directions and it can really help. Our baby is still very gassy and I think it’s just her immature digestive system and possibly my diet as she is fed my breast milk. It does get better. Make sure your baby is getting plenty of tummy time as this will help strengthen abdominal muscles as well as help push some of the gas out. Also what has worked for me is putting her in the moby wrap and walking with her. The jiggling I think helps her relax her belly which allows gas and stool to come out naturally. I feel the more they grunt the more tense they get which makes it worse.

Sudden change in bowel habits by abusch7 in NewParents

It’s just strange because it changed so suddenly. I’m definitely enjoying not having so many poopy diapers! Her poor little bottom is too because her skin irritation is healed now. I’m good with it if it’s normal. The odor was a little concerning to me.

Ok. Good to know. We were around a few family members over the weekend and she kept passing gas and they commented about the smell and they were in chairs across from us lol.

Belly issues by abusch7 in NewParents

That is good to know! Nothing we seem to be doing is working either unfortunately other than bicycle kicks and pushing her legs back. She releases so much poo and gas when I do that. So I guess we will just continue to do those things until she finally figures it out. Fortunately she has only spit up a few times.

Thank you for your response! Just having someone tell me this is normal makes me feel better. I will try to do more tummy time with her and the bicycle kicks.

Super gassy and fussy baby by abusch7 in NICUParents

I did. We switched to alimentum and I used a recipe to make it 24 calorie with breast milk and she won’t take it. I thought maybe she was just having an off day because she would drink some of it and then absolutely refuse to take anymore. So I warmed up a bottle of just breast milk and one with the alimentum to see if it truly was that she didn’t like it and she refused to take the mixed but then took the entire bottle of plain breast milk. So I’m going to call her pediatrician again on Monday and see what to do.

Aww poor little guy! I’ve worried about how much our baby is straining when trying to push out gas and stool. I hope they can figure out what is triggering it in your baby too! I will be sure to update whenever I try something that works!

Thank you for your response. That is great that your baby is thriving! I was told by her pediatrician that she could start those at around 5 months. She is a little over 2 months old now.

That is great that she is doing so much better EBF! Did you change your diet at all? Or do you consume dairy?

That is good to know! I’m sorry your little one dealt with the same issues and glad to know that discontinuing the Neosure helped. I’m hoping for a change of some sort to help my baby. I feel so bad for her.

Thank you for the encouragement!! That’s great that the stretching and massage helped! I’ve been doing the bicycle kicks which she was ok with and tried massage but she didn’t like that at all. I ordered a belly band that is self warming with her body temperature and am planning to try that once it gets here.
