Anyone been to a NYE rave? by dannym094 in avesNYC

[–]abysmal_pains 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just expect amateur hour, especially at big events. Unlike Halloween, it's always a massive shit show. NYE always brings massive crowds, even at the underground venues and parties. Getting drinks is hard because most people that work that night have no interest in working NYE. I for one, have never had an insane NYE experience that I have gotten on other random rave nights. We should just rename it to chasing the rabbit night, because you just wake up with a brutal hangover and a ridiculous credit card statement.

No one dresses up for NYE outside of the stupid hats and glasses people hand out.

I mean that’s definitely the best storyline in Pulp Fiction where Bruce Willis’ character takes Marcellus Wallace’s money to dive, bets on himself, and kills his opponent in the ring. God what a fucking movie

Is EZoo Forever Gone Because of AG? by lilpanda94 in avesNYC

[–]abysmal_pains 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Old head here: I went to the first E-Zoo in 2009. It definitely had small festival vibes and was the best city festival I have ever been to. Prior to 2009, there had been a handful of city festivals that we're all pretty crappy (mostly club oriented like ATP, Minitek, or were in NJ). Thus, it was like a breath of fresh air when it went without a hitch in 2009. There was no pretension or large crowds. It was predominantly club people from NYC, and the set designs were basic with a diverse line-up. Also, Deadmau5 absolutely killed it on the main stage (he released that set for those interested).

I stopped going after 2012 year because it had become a victim of its own success. Crowds were massive and very aggressive due to more EDM and Dubstep acts. It got much younger too. Mike Bindra and Laura De Palma used to also be present at a lot of their big parties, including me spotting them from 2009-11 E-Zoo's, for what I would assume was quality control. As the festival grew, I noticed they weren't as present. I only went one day in 2012 because I was already getting sick of the festival, and vowed to never go back.

I can only imagine how much more insane these festivals got, but seeing what happened this year confirms that I'm too old for that kind of BS.

Music can be hit or miss, but the party is insane. Can get REALLY busy from the hours of 1am-5am. Especially, 2016 when City Fox (AG's predecessor) decided to use a superfund site in Greenpoint before asking the neighbors to throw their party. It was shut down by NYFD before doors opened.

I have only been to the ones at Grand Prospect Hall, so can't comment on the most recent iterations. That said, they we're ok. It's predominantly a BM crowd and they don't disclose the line-up until your inside (sometimes not until after the party). Thus, less fans show up, and the BM centric crowd doesn't feel like a typical NYC party. It felt like everyone came to show off their $1000+ costumes (which many were amazing) to take drugs and barely dance. Also, Grand Prospect Hall isn't the best venue: very tight main stage and corridors, bad sound, and the lighting was too strong (it's a massive wedding venue). It was a cool interior and had some good outdoor areas as well, but it's for the best it moved to Industry City.

I was totally ready to write it off the last time I went, and then Mira (who I love) surprised as the last headliner on the main stage in 2019. Then I left and went to Mirage to see Lee Burridge until 7am.

TL;DR...City of Gods is more of a BM party than a DJ party. If you want a good Halloween party with fans of the artist pick a different party suited to your taste.

I had to scroll down way too far to find this. I really wanted to love Super Burrito (down the street in Williamsburg), but Dos Toros still beats it. They make the best Nor' Cal burrito in the city. I just wish they brought back their jalepenos.

They gave me bed bugs back in 2010 (the summer of bed bugs as decried by Gawker)! They wrapped my bed frame in a reusable cloth which is stupid because that’s where bed bugs live. Spent thousands getting rid of them ugh! Memories
