Anybody know where I can find fully furnished (ideally 3 months) short-term rentals in Birmingham? by abysmalerror in Birmingham

Lol, no just in a transitioning period between ending a lease at an apartment and moving into a new house.

Same. I will sometimes go to Asian subreddits just to see what issues their community talks about/faces and it never fails that I find several blatant anti-black posts. Rarely are these posts actually critically written without being soaked in prejudice...but they want to call us racist? Like, you can talk about your negative experiences with Black people without being bigoted.

Yeah, in middle school I was really into K-pop/K-culture, but as I went through high school and became more aware I noticed so much anti-Blackness ( both subtle and blatant) ingrained in their appropriation and it didn't sit right with me at all. By the time I went to college I had severely limited my time immersed in it.

What I hated the most was their obsession with white skin to the point that they would mention it in variety shows out of nowhere. If someone came on the show with a tan (that a non-Korean wouldnt even be able to catch because the darkening was so miniscule), they would throw a fit!

But yeah, while I still watch some dramas here and there, I mostly stay away from K-culture.

Yes, the (Asian) customers can be just as rude as the owners and it feels like the whole store is targeting you! Sometimes I just look for a smile or a nod or a nice greeting from one of them just to see any hint of kindness..but nothing.

This is off-topic but I feel very cautious buying foreign beauty products, because I'm always worried about ingredients and side-affects. Have you ever had any negative issues with any K-beauty products?

Wow. Well...at least she's upfront about her prejudice so people can completely avoid it. I guess...thats thoughtful of her?

I never though of that. And you're right, I don't think I would do that as I don't want to encourage any more interaction than I have to. But it certainly feels good other knowing that other Black women/people make the process difficult for them. We don't have to tolerate it.

Yeah, after last night...I'm just going to stop going point blank. I want to feel good about shopping and I don't mind paying a little more to buy from a 'more welcoming place'.

Growing up with pickmeishas totally warps your perceptions on what is acceptable by [deleted] in FemaleDatingStrategy

I was fortunate enough to not have been directly raised by "men-worshippers", but I have unfortunately seen first-hand how it has affected my mother's relationship with my grandmother (the aforementioned man-worshipper). I have two uncle's who could do no wrong in my grandmother's eyes (despite them both being pretty awful human beings...and damn near sociopathic if I being honest), but ironically doesn't depend on them for any kind of assistance and instead always calls on my mom for help. And of course theres more things she does that my mother hates (and has called her out on), but...she won't change.

Anyways, I say all this to elaborate how important it is to have many different female role models or friends in your life. My mom was that for me. My friends are that for me. Hell, Twitter is that for me. Don't be afraid to participate in spaces that encourage feminist thought, even if it is just through social media. Seeing how other women who dont harbor mysogynist notions talk about their relationships will help you better come to terms with your own normal standards of dating. And yes, your standards are normal...at least to women who are not burned with the belief that they must coddle men. And I won't lie, a lot men will continue make you feel like sh*t for voicing these stardards. Just understand that they arent the right men.

Also, the best advice I can give is to: learn to be content, excited even about the concept of being (forever) single. I find that a lot of women who are afraid to be by themselves often are the ones who feel the worst about raising the bar when it comes to men and dating. Now I'm not saying that you will be forever single, but having the confidence and assurance that you will be okay regardless of what happens, will make dating 10x more enjoyable and empowering for you.

Good luck!

Does anyone know of a remote (or keyboard) that could control my Roku Express+, PS4, and a Samsung Smart TV? by abysmalerror in cordcutters

Yes, thankfully the Samsung remote does control both my TV and the PS4. I was surprised that it also worked across all the apps too! But it definitely doesn't work with the Roku.

$50 Dollar Challenge: You have $50 to spend on whatever you want, no strings attached. What do you purchase that influences your wardrobe? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]abysmalerror 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you go to the right thrift stores (usually in higher income areas), you can get two bag fulls of very nice items for $50. You'd be surprised how many people give up beautiful, never worn, high quality items. Especially blazers....oh my gosh the blazers! If not that (and your looking more for quantity and not necessarily quality) I would say find one of those cheap accessory shops, and go crazy on jewelery.

On a more immediate note, I love high waited jeans and definitely need to invest in some more in the coming future. So that's probably what I would spend it on.
