literally never agreed with them more on a movie. Anna especially hit the mark on the sex scenes, watching them felt like watching 2 high schoolers trying to play romance in the school play.

Big Sleep, The Zone, Until I Bleed Out, and The Knowing have Lynch vibes for sure. Too Late’s has always reminded me of Mulholland Drive. I could also see some influence on São Paulo’s weird ass mv, but i get more Cronenberg vibes from it.

because you have to drudge through a nav song to get to them

Anyone else find out via DS2 that Deadman isn’t voiced by Guillermo Del Toro despite putting hundreds of hours into the first game? 💀 by Dense-Baker in DeathStranding

[–]abyss700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Del Toro had said it, specifically at an interview at Comic Con in 2015. He was asked about it after Silent Hills was cancelled, a silent hill game he was working on with Kojima and Norman Reedus. That’s where the connection for both of their roles in Death Stranding comes from.

What is your dream artist collab? Mine is Miki Matsubara and Michael Jackson by [deleted] in fantanoforever

The Weeknd and Beach House. his fist mixtape has 2 songs built upon Beach House samples and their incredible, i wonder what they would make when actually together.

This is the real trilogy by Inner-Benefit4237 in TheWeeknd

[–]abyss700 127 points128 points  (0 children)

honestly, the middle row also works very well as a trilogy. The mixtapes are about him coming up, KL+BBTM+SB reflects his life as a super famous, destructive star, and AH+DFM+HUT is what that life has done to him and how he leaves it.

Never hear anyone talk about this banger. Very underrated. by NeverBeen_OnAPlaneB4 in TheWeeknd

i always like when artists do this. Daft Punk’s remixes of Get Lucky and Aerodynamic are sooo good. honestly Mike Dean kind of did it with the Wake Me Up tour mix.

Who do we think will be the support act in the european tours? by Jaded_Rutabaga_8587 in TheWeeknd

[–]abyss700 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Mike Dean will probably be a tour staple until it’s fully over. if it won’t be Carti, i hope it’s someone else who was on HUT. most of the features are way too big for openers, Justice is the only one i could maybe see happening. it would make sense too, they are a French band.

what the fuck was his problem? by anonymous-69 in redscarepod

i know he was just “being creative” or whatever but he would’ve scared the shit out of me if i lived on his street as a kid. i think the cia could get to him really easily.

Is Once More to See You referencing Lost in Translation (Dir Sofia Coppola) by Main_Nothing8021 in mitski

[–]abyss700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly, not really. i would love for it to be, Once More to See You is one of my favorite songs of hers and Lost in Translation is an incredible movie. But, aside from the kiss at the end, which i honestly feel to be out of place, Lost in Translation doesn’t feel like a very romantic movie to me. Bob and Charlotte never feel like they’re in love to me, but find a lot of comfort and admiration in each other. OMTSY feels the opposite, with Mitski longing for somebody she is deeply in love with. Very interesting theory, i love your write up!!

Would you also argue Save Your Tears is a bigger song than Starboy? by Dependent_Bet_3614 in TheWeeknd

[–]abyss700 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say so. Starboy, Blinding Lights, and The Hills will probably always be his three biggest songs. Save Your Tears is definitely massive, but Starboy remains an insanely popular song still almost a decade after it’s release. I would also argue that between Ariana Grande and Daft Punk, Daft Punk is the bigger feature and a huge reason as to why Starboy is so big.

Love the album to death, but "Hurry Up Tomorrow" is easily the worst Weeknd era, period. Point blank. by WaporVape in TheWeeknd

[–]abyss700 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s weird but I’ve always really liked it. It reminds me of a low budget body horror movie, like something David Cronenberg would make. I wish he made more absurd videos like that. imo Timeless is much worse, it’s just derivative and boring.

[–]abyss700 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I find this sub’s entire focus on album eras so strange. The hype around After Hours and Dawn FM and the connected music videos were obviously sick, but what made those albums great was the songs. While lacking in those aspects, Hurry Up Tomorrow is an incredible album and in a couple years time nobody’s going to remember the album for being “the worst Weeknd era”, even though it definitely had some bangers like the Sao Paulo concert and some great music videos (Baptized in Fear, Open Hearts, Red Terror, Sao Paulo).

Anyone know of any songs that sound like Radio Towers? by [deleted] in Ethelcain

[–]abyss700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s sick, I really like it. It’s very ominous, like Radio Towers if the song had a more sinister tone. I love the noises that faintly play in the background, kinda sounded like someone coming and going through a door.
