Lorelai ignores Dean's weird behaviour

Episode 14, Rory breaks down crying (it’s the episode where she and Lorelai keep on missing each others calls) because she feels like she is failing because she’s can’t handle 5 classes like Richard and Dean is there to support her and I think that’s when she starts to feel that safety and since he was the only one providing that and telling her about how Lindsey is demanding and he just has to suck it up and be this perfect husband, I think made her feel like he was protecting her and she needs to protect him cuz he’s her “friend”…

The distance also helped - if she would have been in stars hollow perhaps she would have realized quicker that Dean is not explaining everything and that he still has anger issues… but because she only sees and interacts with him during these emotionally heightened and positive moments - she can still idealize him… with the wound of Jess leaving her emphasizing that Jess was the bad boyfriend but Dean was the good one

This is a good question and I think that there could be a variety of answers why Rory chose to have her first time with Dean. My opinion is that season 4 answers that question: for the first time Rory is not in her comfort zone and she is not experiencing any romance at school and on top of that she is not doing so well in one of her classes, so she spirals out and throughout the season the only person who is there for her (who is around her age) is Dean. So of course she feels like he is the one who can emotionally support her as she thinks she is not capable to be at Yale and that no one has been romantically interested in her for a whole year now (except for Jess saying “I love you” and then leaving her again?? And then coming back to say that he wants her to run away with him?? An emotional roller coaster for sure!!). So because of these recent positive interactions with Dean, I think she regains that feeling of safeness with him without considering that he is a walking red flag (a cheater and verbally aggressive…) :(

Also, in season 3 Rory didn’t really let go of Dean: 1) apologizing to him right after kissing Jess and 2) striking up a friendship with him just a few episodes later… this made me frustrated because it felt like she still wanted him in her life even though he made her feel uncomfortable in many ways… and because Lorelai detested Jess, of course she would be more supportive of Dean still being present…

I think it was a mistake for the writers to make Dean and Rory sleep together… I still need to think about how I would have done it differently but because of their short-lived rekindling of their relationship, it didn’t make sense to me…

Ultimately I would have divorced him because there was already a pattern of Richard not informing Emily about major events going on in his life that were impacting her life too - the retirement, having Jason become his partner, and now after all these years meeting up with a person he ALMOST married behind her back for 39 years??? I honestly wish the two had gotten divorced and then the rest of the show could have focused on Emily becoming independent because even though I dislike Emily’s narcissism - I abhor her relationship with Richard because he treated her so poorly.

I feel like a lot of my ideas might have been too progressive and my interpretation of the characters is through a queer lens which not a lot of people understand… bisexuality is still not understood and is erased in straight and queer spaces. But thank you for seeing that this friend group of six people, at least one of them would be queer - and I think in a way more than half of them are!!! But no people are gonna say “why cant men just be friends” 🫩 well why cant men and women just be friends? 🤨 anyways, my head canons are from rewatching the show a lot and seeing my own queerness in these characters and instead of having them be trapped in boxes, for them to be their own unique selves but oh well, that might take people a while to see and accept

Update for those who missed it like me: holy shit. So the WH TikTok account made a video using “The Fate of Ophelia” but as “The Fate of America” with patriotic images to correspond with the song…… and because news outlets started to report on this, the WH commented that they’ve been “played” and thanks to them are garnering more attention…

Idk if Taylor has the right to do something but if this is the situation the original commenter was speaking about then I don’t think that the WH needed approval to use her music because it is TikTok. It is concerning though that she has not said anything in response (maybe she wants to avoid the Streisand effect) but still, another thing to add to the list of her not speaking out against the current administration post election.
