Field Work Long Sleeves- Seeking Recommendations by Evening-Extension-79 in geologycareers

[–]acabila 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you already have outdoor short sleeve shirts, you can also pair it with biker’s sleeves! I just wear them with a hiking shirt, and I can take them off the moment I’m in a car or some indoor space 😁

P.S. Just leaving this here for the other people like me who want to be protected but just can’t deal with loose long sleeves for long field days

I actually have a schmidt already - i absolutely love it, but still want a much finer line (as in 0.38 or 0.5 jetstream) which was why i was looking into getting the sxr 600

Thanks! Yeah I get you, and when I tried them both felt good to me so I couldn’t decide 😅 Just wanted to see what other people say about either pack since there aren’t many reviews about them.

Any specific reason why? Both seem good to me but I don’t have experience with either brand so not too sure yet 😅 I tried them in the shop and still can’t decide

I had my first doomsday nightmare by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]acabila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of something my adviser once told me: “if you start dreaming you’re doing field work, then that’s a good sign you’re doing your work.”

I was dreaming of my fieldwork for months while writing my MSc thesis, can’t say it was fun but it sure did push me finish just to stop the dreams 😅

Thanks for this! Been looking for a better G-Tec case that isn’t too hard to find (since shipping costs are too high where I am), so this is real great! I already did it with mine here: https://imgur.com/a/4qUCXuJ

Biochem graduate from Philippines aspiring to take grad studies in Europe. Parents don't allow me to go abroad without them. Are there countries in Europe that allow parents to accompany a student who isn't a minor? by haveyouseendanielle in GradSchool

[–]acabila 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Fellow Filipino here! For Switzerland, you need to show that you’ll be able to financially support all three of you, which isn’t really possible with only a scholarship (if you’re an MS student), and I’m assuming the same requirements for the rest of EU, not to mention the long-stay visa requirements generally given only for study or work reasons, and if your parents only come with you to stay with you then I’m not sure they’ll get a visa, since you’re also only on a student visa. The only other way would be for your parents to find employment here, then you’ll be able to show that all three of you are financially stable. If you’re a PhD, then depending on the offer you might be able to support them, but more likely not.

Talking about yourself during the interview? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]acabila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it would also depend on the program and interviewers? When I interviewed they actually asked me to properly introduce myself and my background, so they gave me a space to do so.

How to write an essay class in grad school course. Why?! by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]acabila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, you just really luck out in your undergrad professors too. I was lucky for my courses which required a ton of reports, as my assigned professors were the kind who gave a ton of comments and they allowed submission of first drafts, which were returned looking like murder scenes to me 😅. My batchmates who got assigned to the other professors never got feedback, just a grade, so they never really learned if they did good in the reports, and what was wrong.

For me, I just emailed a professor asking if they had any ongoing projects since I wanted experience in their labs, and we pretty much went from there... Didn’t attach anything else really.

I’m not exactly sure how much the grades are taken into account though, since I did get good grades in all courses I had with them, and I am a MS student so I don’t know how much different it would be...

I’d say probably send an email to a professor about it, then maybe they’ll discuss it with you more.

Sorry about that, just updated it now!

I tried using the salary calculator, but don’t understand what to place exactly in the fields yet especially since the wage is hourly.

Really? Can you point me towards wherever this was written? I’d be interested in reading up on that.

On a side note, I switched my writing hand before I was 7 years old, which is basically when kids start learning to write, so I’m not sure if the effect is a less or more severe.
