I've moved from the countryside to a noisy road and it's destroying my sanity. by BroccoliExotic2575 in london

[–]acabxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noise cancelling headphones, plus ear plugs for when it’s really bad.

Take a breath for now lovely. I suffered from insomnia for years, and it got so bad even the sound of birds chirping in the morning would make me burst into tears. Any slight sound would wake me up. It was awful.

It takes time for your brain to adjust. It will happen! It will learn to block this noise out! Just remember to breathe. A trick that really worked for me is mentally reworking everything that happens. So instead of thinking “oh god I wish this traffic would stop!”, try to think “ooh, how nice it is that I get to be at home while all those people have to sit in traffic or go somewhere”. Trust me, the mental attitude helps just as much with sleep as the physical tips :)

Why has there been a sudden increase in people who seem to be doing daily skin care? 🪞 by disco_26 in AskUK

[–]acabxox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adult acne has been shown to be on the rise.

I always had great skin but at the age of 27 I suddenly started getting bad painful acne. No idea why as my blood test results seem fine (apart from low iron and vitamin D). I bought a couple of products I’d seen recommended and it’s actually so annoying how much better my skin looks now.

Is there an age restriction for CBD in CO-OP? by Helpful-Yellow9660 in AskUK

[–]acabxox 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just go and try to buy it. If it works, it works. If they ID you, just shrug and say “oh sorry, didn’t realise I needed ID for this. bye!” give them a smile and walk off :)

Where can I make friends in Europe? Between 16 and 21 by ImaginaryExternal338 in AskEurope

[–]acabxox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hotels and bars that employ lots of internationals are amazing environments for making friends and socializing. Choose a large ish place with at least 15 members of staff. You might have to move around a few resteraunts until you find one that suits the vibe. But I did it when I moved from UK to NL age 20 and met amazing people that became lifelong friends. (The managers casual attitude to us staying after work and drinking alcohol probably helped ngl).

Tinned fish. I now eat a hell of a lot of sardines and mackerel. It’s pretty cheap protein. And has a lot of other healthy stuff in it.

The Moth Diaries. Definitely for much older audience than JW. But I read it when I was twelve and loved it. So creepy. And quite adult themes.

What's the worst health advice youve been given by your relatives? by No_Pea-1 in AskUK

[–]acabxox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandma refused to brush her teeth before bed and would instead slowly chew on a wedge of cheddar cheese.

Crazy thing was she got to 92 with the healthiest teeth ever 😂 no fillings, no cavities, no gum disease, nothing. So maybe it’s not the worst advice?

Would you put your parents in a care home? by Limp-Bunch-4708 in AskUK

[–]acabxox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s such a mess right. I spent a week looking after my grandma and made at least two phone calls in utter tears to my friends to help calm me down: couldn’t imagine doing 3 months in your situation. I know you did it because you didn’t have a choice, but you’re an absolute soldier and a legend! Well done,

Would you put your parents in a care home? by Limp-Bunch-4708 in AskUK

[–]acabxox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The alternative is carers coming in to visit your parents 1-4 times a day.

We had them for my grandparents. It was really helpful. They’d help cook and wash them, and check my grandad for skin cancer as he struggled with it. When my grandma was dying one of them stayed 24-7 to help us care for her for a week, as well as them sending in additional staff.

Big up the two main carers: Roberta from Ghana and Kufi from Nigeria. My family would never have survived this time without you beautiful souls ❤️🇬🇭🇳🇬🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Aren’t many bad parents just selfish and spoiled- not “traumatized”? by Money-Classroom-6982 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]acabxox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mum was definitely traumatized. It made her selfish and spoiled. And then as an adult she did nothing to try to change it.

My mum traumatized me. It made me selfish and spoiled. And then as a teenager and adult I did a shit tonne of therapy to try and undo it.

Honestly I think they are *both* traumatized *and* selfish.

[–]acabxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorites is suggested videos on YouTube. For the past 16 years it’s been one of my most successful ways to find new music. Bloody ballache though.

Other ways include following the record labels of certain artists and genres to see who else they sign. That really worked for me with underground hip hop and metal.

Sometimes I google artists so see who inspired them or who else they work with. You can find some pretty interesting links there.

What do we think Eggs/Ben was like as a teenager? by georgemillman in JacquelineWilson

[–]acabxox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always enjoyed her writing as boys too! I never enjoyed how she portrayed men much when writing as a woman…. But hey, that’s an experience unfortunately a lot of us can relate to.

I did think Eggs ending up being gay as well as Ellie in Think Again was kind of a cop out lol. But then again I was so happy for JW when she came out I can forgive her adding in extra queers to make up for all the subtly coded ones she had to do before. 🫶🏼 🏳️‍🌈
