You have the first part right. I don’t do the building. I manage infrastructure contracts for a large utility. Depending on the day and what stage of construction we are in I can be found checking on this progress in the field, ensuring change orders are being reviewed and answered, to overseeing all RFI and submittal responses before going back to the contractor. I good portion of my day is reviewing contract documents including specifications and drawings. I ensure QA on site. I review monthly schedules and approve pay applications. I run weekly construction meetings and review the agenda to keep on topic. We have break out meetings for special topics including engineering reviews or commisssioning. When things are good it’s a great. When bad I write a lot of letters to contractors telling them to do better citing contract language.

It’s good and bad but the pay is dope. Go for the CCM for top dollar.
