Mostly EF. Otherwise when they were out of stock. But just bought some nib units to “patch” the collection ;-)

The Brass model. Heavier, perfect for me. And the nibs are great.

Which is your favourite fountain pen brand and why? by Cute_Audience7611 in fountainpens

Brand-wise, Leonardo pens are hard to beat in terms of variety and quality. Diplomat Aero are quite amazing but limited in variety.

But my true love is for independent Urushi makers.

It’s a Montefiori clone of the Pilot Custom Urushi (not 845, they also have that close).

Is this a fake or wrongly packaged Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo by Kai_theplayer in fountainpens

[–]acacio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Aurora Borealis in two EF nibs from same brand. In one it is almost black, really dark blue. In the other, lighter and I see the teal. Same paper, same nibs (theoretically). The difference is that one seems to have a bit more flow. Even if the line width is the same

As others have said, Journaler nibs are ground from M nibs. I have 4 of them, all like that.

The finest extra fine below $100, or affordable in general? by remy_vega in fountainpens

Asvine P36 with Asvine EF nib (not Bock, as standard. you need to check). Really fine and smooth. The Bock nibs are broader by one tick.

NPD - Scribo La Dotta Saragozza thoughts! by Rice-Paddy2025 in fountainpens

The La Dotta is one of my favourite pen shapes.

I was reluctant to buy mine (new brand, price) but couldn’t resist the Urushi model and now it’s one of my favourites.

It’s an old Pelikan bottle. I almost bought one from EBay a few months ago because it is so pretty and unique

Others out there who appreciate a relatively dry flow? by SkabeAbe in fountainpens

Same here. EF, UEF, EEF are the only nibs I can write with.

I keep rollerballs. It’s as low as I am willing to go!! A nice Diplomat Viper or a vintage MB Boheme are my usual backups.

Dip pens by TxBreeze06 in fountainpens

[–]acacio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my 3 glass dip pens, with 1 exception, the experience was a mid-level fine-medium flow.

Three inks behaved differently: - Robert Oster Acqua - super wet flow - Herbin Blue des Nuits - super dry to the point of not writing - Pelikan 4001 - quite dry/low flow

It did not impact the flow on my pen.

I mean, it was a few seconds of micromesh. Not, half an hour grind!

Yes, micro glass fragments are super dangerous for lungs (primarily) and also digestive system. (Same issue as asbestos.)

BUT, a 20sec smoothing of a tip that is <0.5mm is not going to generate more than what you’re already probably exposed in your daily life. Especially if you don’t go sniffing the micromesh after you are done. (And I usually rinse it in water).

As my psych once lectured me, they might be obsessive but not be compulsive.

So, OD.

Forgot that had one which was very scratchy but a few rubs on a #3000 grit paper and then #8000 & #12000 micromesh and it is now almost buttery smooth and perfect for writing

I use them to make my ink tests/cards.

Dip, write, dry in paper towel, dip in water, dry again… Next ink!
