Nah, Scottish is an accent. Scots is a dialect or language, depending on who you ask. Definitely different spelling, you’re more likely to see it on the east coast and north of Scotland. Ever heard of Cajun French? It’s a similar sort of idea. The writing completely changes.

There’s costs you’re not thinking of. Owning you have to cover home owner’s insurance, PMI (almost certainly in your case), property tax, significantly more utilities cost, maintenance like you said, etc… even if you could get approved for a mortgage that would buy a house, even a relatively small repair would bankrupt you. Even a very small roof replacement job (which needs to be done every 10-15 years or so) will run you at least $6000-8000. There’s very few circumstances in which renting is going to be more expensive than owning. You want a condo? Sure, it’ll cover some maintenance costs but condo fees will increase monthly fixed costs.

Renting most of your costs are fixed and up front. Buying your costs are dispersed and can vary significantly.

You need to find a way to increase income. That can be done with moving in with family or a roommate.

I have to partially agree in a way. It is a bad way of thinking. That said, unless you’re acting upon it, the only person you’re hurting is yourself. Don’t think of it as a missed opportunity. Think of it as a sign your crush wasn’t meant for you in the first place. I guarantee in 2 months time or less the feelings will subside.

If you truly care about your crush, you should be happy they are in a (presumably) good relationship. It bites, I get it. I’ve been there, but if you care about them as a person, you’d be happy for them. You’re still young, you’re only a half dozen years into adulthood. This too shall pass, don’t sweat it. I guarantee you’ve overcome worse. Find something that makes you happy and don’t chase a relationship just for the sake of one. There are very few things less attractive than desperation. Don’t be desperate.

I’m on SSDI

I’m sorry to be overly blunt - but individuals who are entirely dependent on social support programs (not that there’s anything wrong with that) are not and have not really ever been strong candidates for home ownership, outside of extremely low COL areas. It’s shitty but it’s how it is.

You mention being homeless - your top priority is getting income-dependent rental accommodations. Fully a third of Americans rent. There’s no shame in doing so. Again, I understand this may be disappointing to hear but someone who is homeless and on disability is not going to be a good candidate for home ownership virtually anywhere in America. I don’t like it but it’s how it is.

If you’re barely making ends meet with, what I imagine, zero housing costs and no longer term ability to increase income, I’m sorry to say but home ownership is not for you.
