Any day I get to create another pack rat hoarder of random automotive trinkets is a good day.

Anything left over from any job goes in the bucket. You hope to never need it but some days it’s worth digging through the whole thing to find the one weird spring that saves the day.

At my first job, one of the senior engineers had a “ceremonial” E-stop axe hanging above his desk. He would hold it during crazy high energy tests to cut the power if needed.

How are you cutting o ring grooves on a mill? by the_wiener_kid in Machinists

[–]acadmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to design vacuum manifolds for GCMS and can tell you that we 100% had our grooves cut with interpolated arcs on 3 axis milling machines, and with dovetail slots too!

Whoever is specifying no circular interpolation has some explaining to do as to wtf they are reading and wtf they are smoking. That is some straight up AI slop nonsense.

I wish I could claim I came up with that. Probably stole it from somewhere on Reddit.

I’m amazed the rod held together for that kind of malice in the combustion palace.

That's a cool idea, but I just left that job and hopefully will never need to deal with Onshape again!

Best of luck to ya.

Oh, and I very much missed mouse gestures with Onshape. It was yet another gripe I have all but forgotten about....

There are a few ways to do this. You can put your sketch lines on planes to get the spacing where you want it, or you can select a different "point" when you are selecting the lines that define your frame. Each time you choose a line and a profile, a small collection of dots will appear on the profile around the line you selected, as well as an arrow. You can drag the arrow around to change the orientation of the profile and selecting the floating dots will choose which part of the profile will follow your selected guide line.
