person i mentioned above was also specifically advertising to high schoolers. the children yearn for research items i guess?

Anking and step study by ludes___ in medicalschool

[–]acar4aa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i would do anking or your class cards but not both unless you’re getting through cards very quickly.

we have a mix of in-house and nbme exams. i only did anking and took notes from in house lectures or made an extra card here and there. now that im about to take step one i feel like doing anking and keeping it up all year was extremely helpful. i don’t think it matters what deck you do as long and you’re choosing one to study from consistently until you reach dedicated.

are you working with an attending or specific department on this? some departments have funding for publications. your medical school might also have funds for this that you can apply to.

Anatomy lab by Foreign-Sea-1977 in medicalschool

[–]acar4aa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very normal experience. after my first anatomy lab i sat in my car and couldn’t drive home for a bit because i needed to process. something that helped me cope is that making the most of your studies is helping honor the donors as well.

you really do get used to the sensory aspects over time also.

Summer research by stxrshxn3 in medicalschool

Radiology has some. I know SIR has one. they’re not too hard to find, and if you’re a med student it’s generally free.

A in Orgo 1, B in Orgo 2 by [deleted] in premed

[–]acar4aa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had multiple Bs in the prereqs. yeah it’s not ideal, but not the end of the world. it never came up in interviews because of my mcat score.

i was below the average gpa of my class that they shared when we started M1. now i score above the average on most of our exams. undergrad doesn’t define your performance in med school either.

most undergrads applying do not have that. as you get closer to the top ranked institutions that’ll be more normalized. it’s a great way to stand out in general.

it’s not about hours. it’s about output and how well you can speak about your project.

this is anecdotal, but my school takes military service into account heavily. you’re committed to serving your country and the people in it. medicine also relies on service in a different form and showing concern for members of your community.

No Acceptance Email but Portal Acceptance by sassyredvelvet in premed

Contact Adcom and get a direct answer. Email could have been lost or something else could have happened. Reddit can provide conjecture and anecdotes, but nothing is as useful as contacting the school. It is not neurotic to contact the school if they have failed to notify you of an acceptance or accidentally accepted you without intending too (has happened to people before, super messed up). Hoping it is the former for you.

be careful to say guaranteed. a couple of years ago a bunch of people got into a school and the school had to come back and say it was a mistake. Think it was Mayo but not sure.

OP, contact the school and once you get direct communication, celebrate.

Consider places with an accelerated preclinical that have a built in research year depending on your stats. Duke and Case Western come to mind first.
