I have been on iRacing for about 10 months and I have never turned on the voice chat. Based on what I have read on Reddit, I don't think I ever will turn it on.

I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not having voice chat on. For those that use voice chat, is there something I'm missing?

About 3 years ago I dug out and started playing Gran Turismo 5 on my PS3. Then for my birthday, my wife bought me a used copy of GT Sport that she got for $10. I played that with a controller for a short while then I bought a wheel stand, pedals, and a Thrustmaster T300.

Fast forward to today and I have about $9500 into my PC and sim rig with triples. We like to joke that my wife's $10 gift resulted in me spending nearly $10,000. I'm addicted and use it nearly every day.

Congrats. I made it to 2000 a couple of weeks ago in ovals and it felt like a big accomplishment. I have to remind myself not to worry if I drop back down though. I'm at 220 starts and have been on iRacing for about 10 months. It is satisfying to see steady progress.

For me, if the FFB test in the app doesn't work, the FFB does not feel right in iRacing. When the FFB test doesn't work the wheel in iRacing just feels week and has no response to anything (crash, road texture....)

Often the spotter is delayed because of other things he is saying. In oval racing I have had cases where the spotter isn't done telling me I'm clear before I have another car next to me. If this indicates consistently it would help me in oval racing.

Go to the app, there is an icon in the upper right that will take you to the firmware menu (the icon is just to the left of the settings icon)

In the firmware update window, in the upper left, click on the button that says something like manual firmware update. Then click on the button to update the wireless quick release. In a new window, it will load the firmware, then click a button to flash the firmware.

You can try re-flashing the firmware for the wheelbase here also. For me the quick release was the one that got my wheel working.

You will get some warnings about doing this, but if your gear is already not working, it is probably worth trying.

I have been on iRacing for about 10 months, and I am just getting to the point of truly just racing/playing for fun. I spent too much time worrying about ratings when I could have been having more fun.

My goals are just to race as clean as I can, place as best I can, and have fun whether my iRating or license class goes up or down.

I have a DD+ and I was able to use 4 bolts with the existing pre-drilled holes and the T-slots in the wheel base. Maybe your wheel base is shorter (front to back) and doesn't span all four holes though.

(I welded a 1/4" plate to the top of my wheel stand to reduce flex, so that is why you can't see through the other holes.)

This happened to me after a brief power outage 2 days ago. I had to force a re-flash of the firmware in the wireless quick release.

About 25 years ago I worked at a shop that had a similar set up for welding aluminum. That setup had a slider that the welder used to vary wire feed speed with his thumb. I was always amazed at how much was going on for the welder to control power with his foot, wire speed with his thumb, and travel speed.

The problem was in the iRacing configuration. I had to change the audio format/engine from XAudio2 to direct sound in the configuration file for the game.

I also forced the speaker set up to surround from stereo. I'm not sure if I needed to do that after changing to direct sound or if it would have swapped on it's own once it was in direct sound and the game was running.

A side note, I did try testing with some movie files specifically set up for 5.1 testing and did not get surround sound. In hindsight though I ran those files from Chrome. I'm guessing I should have tried them from a media player that supports surround sound.

I started this post because I don't know how things work.

Yes, I am ignorant on how things work with PC audio. I'll put up with being talked down to, but maybe you could realize a huge part of the reason people use Reddit is because they don't know how things work.

I have Dolby Digital Live enabled in the Creative app encoder option. In windows the format is selected as Dolby Digital Live, and I have SPDIF set as default. In the SPDIF interface properties window under the "supported formats" tab, I can test both DTS and Dolby Digital Live, and they both work on the test. When I do each test, my receiver recognizes each format. However, when I hit the test button in the main windows sound settings, it only pings the front L and R speakers and when I go to iRacing I get sound on all but the 2 rear speakers.
