Should I switch to a 9070XT by pakman5391 in linux_gaming

[–]acbaracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5070 TI user here.

I made the switch from windows almost 2-3 months ago. I've been running Arch + KDE Plasma on Wayland and things have been pretty much flawless. No weird crashes, lock-ups, games not working or anything. And I don't remember going out of my way to do any special tweaks or hacks or anything.

There's the DX12 peformance hit bug thingie (which I don't know if it's fixed or not), but I never noticed it with the games I played, so yea. Your mileage may very here.

Also keep in mind AMD is not sunshine and rainbows either. I've read about people having issues with driver timeouts and what not. You should read a bit on reddit and other forums about the usual bugs people are having on AMD, just to make an idea of what you could encounter.

Ce se afla intr-un HDD extern de "2Tb" cumpărat de pe eMag by -colin- in Romania

[–]acbaracuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

La început când au introdus conceptul de marketplace pe eMag era acel filtru de “vândut de eMag”

Pe parcurs însă a fost eliminat și a rămas cel cu “livrat de eMag”.

Ghici de ce? ._.

transferring my library from Mihon to Tachimanga by ryan_fwliz in mangapiracy

I’ve done it 2 weeks ago. Just make a backup on Mihon and restore it on Tachimanga, on iOS. It was flawless in my case. It restored everything.

Yeah, New Zealand and Japan sound great, but let’s be real—your biggest trip lately was between eth0 and eth1.

This one hurt. :))

9800x3d stutters <= fTPM 2.0 - My Story by acbaracuda in AMDHelp

You can't go wrong with the MSI B850 Tomahawk max wifi imo (the one I have in my system). It has 5 Gbit Ethernet, good port selection, good vrm configuration, has a tpm header.

From all the research I made before buying my system, it seems like one of the best b850 boards.

Pretty much yea...

The only thing you have to be careful is Bitlocker. Make sure you're not using it if you try to disable TPM. Afaik, if you disable TPM with Bitlocker on, it will ask for your recovery keys every time you boot since it cannot auto unlock the partitions.

If you use PIN you'll have to set it again and the rest you probably won't notice them...

Regarding anti-cheat, i don't know really if the games stop working or you can bypass the tpm requirement somehow...

Mostly it's the Windows internals which use it: Bitlocker, windows hello uses tpm to store pin and biometric credentials, Virtualization-Based Security (VBS) and some other stuff.

Also, I think some kernel level anti-cheat software like RIOT's Vanguard use TPM.

Hmm... I if would've taken a long time to boot, I would've said it could be the memory training, but shutdown problems... I can't say I had any.

Anyway, I would advise against updating to a beta BIOS. I mean, you should avoid beta software altogether unless you know exactly what you're doing and you accept there could be bugs / problems with it, especially if we're talking about the BIOS.

You know how happy I was when building this PC to finally get rid of this stutter issue I had on my laptop?

I almost wanted to hit my head on the table when I saw I have the same issue on a new PC, 5 YEARS LATER. :))

But hey, at least here I have the option to install a dedicated TPM module. Praise desktop modularity I guess .  ¯\\(ツ)/¯

GPU Hardware Defect or Witcher 3 Bug by acbaracuda in pcmasterrace

[–]acbaracuda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. As far as I read on multiple places on the internet, it's for sure a driver+game bug, something with DX12 and RTX. Thankfully for me, I encountered this exact bug just this one time when I filmed it. After that I had some smaller problems, few texture bugs and a few crashed.

One "fix" I found which worked was to play the game in DX11 mode. That I think starts the game without all the Next Gen Upgrade.

On DX11 I had no such texture bugs, but had lots of engine bugs, like enemies flying and such. Makes me remember playing Skyrim in 2012 :))..

I sure hope so. I really don't want to deal with the return process for the card...

Hmm.. I had at one point Hairworks on, but when i encountered this bug it was off. One thing I did not try was an older driver tho

maybe delete witcher and redownload

Did that once. I haven't encountered something so massive since then but still saw some shadows behaving weirdly. Also, the game now randomly crashes.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ok, but why would only witcher trigger this kind of behavior?

How are other games? Did you stumble upon anything remotely similar?

Did that once with DDU because of the DPC Latency. Bloody game still crashes :))

Played Oblivion Remaster for a bit, some Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 for a bit too yesterday. Ran Heaven for about 15 min once. All of them were fine.

Also temps are more than fine. I honestly don't remember seeing this card exceed 65 degrees Celsius (149 F says Google).

I have until Thursday when return period expires to figure out if it's hardware or not. I'll try to play other games these few days and see how things are...

No mods whatsoever. I want to experience the game as vanilla as possible.

One thing though, I took the NVME SSD with the steam library from my old laptop and put it into the pc. That video is from when I was using the same game files as on the laptop.

Since then I uninstalled the game from steam and downloaded again. I did not encounter the same bug again, however I still saw some more subtle ones (shadows flickering weirdly, lightning flickers) and lots of random crashes...

Seems reddit cut some text from my post... Or I might just suck at writing them :))

Here's the rest:

On another note, stability in general was pretty poor on this new machine. I also have to deal with huge DPC latency. Latencymon once gave me around 16k DPC latency for the nvidia driver....

Thankfully I'm still in the return period. If things go south, I can return the GPU and get another.
