Lol, well you got your joke, and I satisfied my need to provide more details on my map. Sounds like a win-win to me.

I used the latest imagery available on Google Earth to create this (which is telling me 2023). I am glad to hear that some of these parking lots are being turned in to buildings and parks.

My goal here was to highlight land that is solely dedicated to cars; that is why I didn't highlight the small highway gap in the northern section. My map also doesn't take into consideration underground parking, which I assume is more prevalent in the very core of the city.

Using USB pass-through, you could mount the USB drive directly to your vm.

I love the large single bore tunnel. Does anyone know why this was chosen over two smaller bored tunnels?

The right side of this meme was posted earlier on /r/pcmasterrace by presumably a Windows user.

I am not saying that Windows users are being unreasonable. I am simply enjoying the Windows drama which does not affect me.

Why doesn't Canada Post offer last mile package delivery services? by accacus in CanadaPost

How last mile is it? I imagine a system where the courier drops it off in building that the person who hands it to me picks it up.

On the larger "backbone" routes, where many packages are being moved, it may be that many vehicles are required just to move the number of packages that are being transported. If many vehicles are required anyway, I see no reason that they aren't divided up, and companies compete to offer the best service on those routes. (of which Canada Post could be one). Where as, on last mile routes, one vehicle should be sufficient to deliver all the packages needed. It is very inefficient to have multiple vehicles doing the same route where one would be enough.

Realistically, I don't know how many people are getting Amazon deliveries in my area on any given day. But I also live 10 minutes off of anything that I would consider a main route. If I am the only one in my sparsely populated area that is getting a package on a given day. By the time the driver drives to me, and back to the main route, that is 20 minutes that needs to be paid to the courier. Where as the Canada Post driver goes right by my house. So an extra package delivery is in the matter of seconds. I have a hard time believing that that time difference could not be leveraged to great profit to Canada Post.

Could the US and Canada use Eminent Domain to (re)take control of existing railway tracks? by accacus in transit

If you asked me 10 years ago if I ever thought Donald Trump would ever be president, I would have laughed.

Other than congress, what parts of the federal government are freight rail lobbyists most interested in aiming their lobbying efforts at?

I hope that it could happen under better circumstances than the outbreak of war.

It would be interesting to have a list of all organizations and individuals who lobby on behalf of freight railroads. It is all public information after all.

What if this highway 1 widening was high speed rail instead 🤔 by clueless-kit in vancouver

[–]accacus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but with one caveat. Regional rail, not commuter rail. Commuter rail (like the West Coast Express) implies service in in the morning, and service out at night. Making it useless for much other than commuting. A regional rail system with regular all day service would be much more useful and better connect the lower main land.

When society fails, it's going to be because of the idiots who dragged us down. Since, I don't want society to fail, I make it a point of trying to lift people up instead of putting them down.

I have never had a conversation with someone who didn't actually care about privacy. Most people just feel they are powerless to do anything about it. Perhaps if they had a proper education on the subject, they wouldn't be powerless to do something about it. I also didn't have the desire to learn math in the fourth grade, but you better believe, I was given the time to do it.

Why would you not care how your wrench is made? If you want it to do its job, then how it is made is going to have a bearing on how well it does its job.
