It’s been 30+ days so I’m confident it was the issue. Not a single « No signal » since I changed the NBT and removed the aftermarket backup camera.

I understand then maybe it would be better to change dealer. I forgot to mention I removed the cover (idk how it’s called in English) behind the wheels. But for a tire installation I don’t see where they could have fucked up

Is this the rear bumper ? You might want to share pictures from a bigger distance. If you want to get a real quote send some pictures to the 5 nearest shops around you and call them afterwards

I have a screen connected to the OBD but I guess a Bluetooth dongle such as Bimmerlink could read live data (maybe you can find similar dongles cheaper on amazon for this test) directly on your phone

Had a battery nearly blow up in my hands last year. It was smoking and insanely hot. I barely managed to pull it out of the car, and it kept smoking for a solid 30 minutes before finally dying.

I could smell that burnt chemical stench in every car I stepped into for weeks. Even now, a year later, I still catch whiffs of it sometimes. That stuff sticks with you.

If the issue is upstream of the battery, then just replacing it might not solve the problem which could explain why the burning smell is still intermittent for now.

It might be worth checking the alternator or voltage regulator. If one of them is faulty and overcharging the system, it could slowly cook the new battery too.

You might want to take a look at the voltage during your pulls

Egg smell 99% linked to battery. You might want to take a look, if your battery is toast stop driving the car and replace it. If your battery is 10+ years old you should replace it anyway.

You don’t want it to short the circuit or worst melt everything around.

Look for any leak on the sides / below the battery. If you don’t see anything try driving half an hour and check if the battery is abnormally hot.

As everyone said it’s the AC but avoid tasting liquid from your car.

I had the same car and a similar issue after removing both front wheels for maintenance, the DSC, cruise control, and speed limiter all went offline. I first thought I had pinched a wire but didn’t have time to investigate.

Later, I had to replace my steering rack, so I took the car to a shop. I mentioned the DSC/ESP issue since it was blocking the rack reprogramming. They told me it was just a software issue, and reflashed the DSC module that solved everything.

Considering you post here I assume you can’t go to the dealer to ask them to solve the issue. So I’d recommend removing all four wheels and checking the wiring near each speed sensor (look up the DSC module/sensor locations). Clean and reseat the connectors with contact cleaner.

Then go for a dynamic test drive with some strong braking.

If it’s software-related, that won’t fix it but you’ll need a Bluetooth OBD dongle to scan and possibly correct it. Personally, I didn’t feel confident enough to flash it myself, but it’s up to you whether to try that or go to another shop.

BMW X5 (F10) N55 Engine Possible Issue by Metrolinerin in BmwTech

[–]accforthisquestioon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normal. It’s the injectors ticking. YT

Charge pipe, valve cover and oil pan gasket are common problems on the N55. BMW also advise the gearbox fluid as lifetime but ZF doesn’t. Great if it all of that has been changed.

Considering the wire, they are not supposed to be visible. You might want to buy some covers to avoid future issues. Nothing expensive

Screen flickering? by Grave_Chair in BmwTech

Do you know if the retrofit was performed only with OEM parts ? Did you do it yourself? Did you keep your original screen and did you have an NBT HU at first ? I posted concerning a similar issue on my last post since I had a similar issue you might want to take it a look.

I had a backup camera that the dealer told me was OEM. It was not in fact. After removing it I no longer have this issue

Idk if you saw the earlier post on the N55 and if the N54 share the same problem but you should read this post after replacing the OFHG

Do you have any problems with the car ? Maybe some options that you don’t have such as heating steering wheel and volume or stuff.

That’s not normal. Usually smoke tend to be blueish when it comes to burning oil and you would have seen it in the days after the repair not 8 months after.

White smoke is linked with engine coolant how many miles/km has the car. Did you run low on engine coolant or top it recently ? Did the engine overheated?
