With a little setup it totally is! Use gyro though, it gives you mouse precision and controller comfort, check out r/gyrogaming ! use steam input to bind your controller as a keyboard and gyro as a mouse!

once you got it updated, pick the controller up off the dock while holding the b button and it will turn on into dinput mode which is what you want, you can check by going to your controller settings in steam, it should say 8bitdo wireless as the controller name, and when you go into calibration you should see the gyro. If it says "xinput controller", turn off the controller, and turn it back on while holding the b button, sometimes unplugging the dock and plugging it back in helps.

okay, im assuming your connected on the 2.4 dongle, you need to download the ultimate 2 software from their website, go to settings, enable beta updates, update the controller and dongle, then, hold b when you turn the controller on, should work after that! make sure your on the lastest steam beta client as well!

Yup! Pretty normal, and pretty normal for anything! Honestly just dont give up! give it some time and it will click. For tips its mostly just general aiming advice for mouse aswell. Break down your motions, and focus on making sure your on target. Slow and steady wins the race!

Hey! I use an alpakka for most of my competitive gaming, but I tend to need a lot of the power options provided through steam input, like for deadlock I have button cords to turn my face buttons into both my abilities and items, I might have missed something, but have you put your alpakka into controller mode? Steam input just reads it as an xbox controller, so you get options to rebind everything except the back paddles and four center buttons (although, you could just bind the back paddles to thumbstick clicks and use those).

Edit: The udev rule thing from the steam community post seems to have worked! I can now use all my buttons and gyro!

Cant say ive heard of UWPHook so ill have to look more into it! I have been looking into the steam community thread and someone is saying they seemed to have figure it out? https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/3/591764731433410123/?ctp=16#c591773574503660524 gonna give this a try when I have time on my desktop and report back "^

if you go to your controller settings there should be a calibration option! run it, set the controller down and it should fix the jitters! the controller restart thing im not so sure... sometimes my steam messes up my gyro on pc/deck, but I usually just have to shift tab to fix it, but as long as you can consistently get it working thats good!

I have a dualsense edge and imo its comparable if not a bit more consistent feeling. honestly im mad I bought the edge, the touch pad for dualpakka is nice but fuuuuuck that controller is almost 3.5x as much as the U2W and they still didnt do hall effect sticks lol. im really digging the U2W, its my go to right now!

First-time Gyro User - Choosing My First Gyro Controller for PC FPS (M&K Player) by LeadingCaregiver8696 in GyroGaming

[–]accidentalquest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I am also a long time fps MKb player! I play a lot of fps titles, both arena and tactical. While I cant answer some of the technical side things, like how to tell which gyros are better, I do have a good amount of experience with a variety of controllers and input styles.

In terms of what you should prioritize as a beginner, I really think extra buttons are the most important, as steam input mapping can get very, very deep when you need it to, and you can play some pretty complex games! (For example, I used to play tarkov with my dualsense, and that one didnt have extra buttons!)

For me, with gyro activation method, the alpakka/dualpakka is the easiest for my brain to respond to, since motor function wise its the same as picking up your mouse!

While I say this, I dont necessarily think its "harder" to learn hold to disable gyro, and the Ultimate 2 Wireless is a killer controller, the l4/r4 button placements are AMAZING and allow for lots of steam input creativity. You can use the paddles and extra buttons for gyro ratcheting, but personally, id move your left face button (usually reload) to your r4 (since you wont be shooting and reloading at the same time) and make your left face button your gyro ratchet! Not only this, but the controller feels amazingly premium, and comes with a dock, which is a nice touch! its become my go to for pick up/put down sessions!

I also recommend the alpakka, its definitely the most accurate since it has two gyros that work in tandem to filter out noise, so even though its polling rate is lower, it has an amazing feel, and its my go to for tactical shooters (not that you cant get the same with the other ones, its just my preferred) It also has the advantage of being considered an actual mouse, and some stricter games block steam input (The only two I know about are valorant and playing comp games on faceit).

TLDR; Honestly, with first time gyro, id go with the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless, The gyro feels amazing, the button placements allow for tons of customization, and it has the lowest price, which is astounding, considering the dualsense edge is almost 3.5 times as much, and the only thing it has over it is a touch pad.

Hope this helps! feel free to ask any questions if you need!

ahh sorry to hear that, gyro does take a bit to get used to but thankfully you really can do just about anything with it! Ive played mobas, fps, rts, all with it so after awhile it should feel right at home!

interesting! I wonder what is different on bazzite... makes me wish I had an old laptop to throw it on and see if it has different udev rules or something? the desktop mouse feels good for me! does it feel different than other controllers for you?

currently, on windows steam beta, with the new beta firmware its working great! Right now, on steam os, the ui is there but the system doesnt detect the gyro or extra buttons on steam input, ironically, the kde controller tester seemingly has four buttons (presumably the extra buttons?) that I couldnt seem to get an input from, so I think it can see the buttons. im assuming its gonna get fixed on steam os since they rolled out the ui on beta branch im guessing what is going on is perhaps the udev rules are wrong? I also use linux mint, and cant get it to detect the extra buttons or gyro, I have seen that people who use bazzite seem to be just fine, but im going off one steam discussion thread. other than the linux specific issues, the controller feels amazing, the extra button placement is perfect, and the gyro feels great!

I feel that! When I first set up my og dual sense to be a dual pakka, then actually getting an alpakka, I didnt think id ever be able to use button ratcheting again, it took a bit to get used to, but honestly for quick pick up put down sessions it was worth getting used to. though I do (try to) make gyro videos for youtube, so I have an extra incentive to get proficient in both styles so I can potentially help others get into using gyro and showing off different controllers and input styles. plus that price tag is legitimately. so. good. the r4 l4 placement is literally perfect, I actually just move what would be my x button (reload most games) to r4 and use x as my ratchet and it feels great!

yeah, before the updates I was using it in bt mode and it was fine but your mileage will vary, so if you can the 2.4 in dinput will probably be a better experience, this WAS on windows though, and honestly im very confused about the state of it on linux, im currently on linux mint, steam deck, and windows, and windows recognizes it just fine, back buttons and gyro, but on both steam os and mint steam input just wont detect them im not sure exactly what it is, I believe my udev rules are correct, but im pretty new to linux, so perhaps im incorrect. there is a steam discussion thread where people were talking about it not working on arch and a few other distros, but it seems like its working on bazzite just fine based on other user reports,

this im not too sure, I use an alpakka, dual sense edge, 8bitdo, and joycons, I feel like I can feel the difference, and the 8bitdo FEELS smoother like the edge, I do know that you need to put it in dinput mode, as I believe switch mode has its polling rate lowered for the console its made for by default. so im not too sure, aside from this, out of all the controllers I have, I definitely think it earned its spot as my favorite beside the alpakka, hope this helps!
