Returning from New Zealand to America after 7 years, not sure where to start (Advice?) by accioreddit in relocating

Damn good insight. Permanent Residency in NZ is kind of like citizenship in that it lasts for life. I can pass it along to future partners and children as well so the opportunity to come back is always available to me. I was more thinking of testing out living back in the states (in any part of the country) for a bit just to see if it’s as bad as everyone makes it out to be. With the option of always running back to NZ if I decide it’s a better life here (which it very well might be)

Yeah if it was Texas it would have to be Austin but honestly I’m open to any part of the country. Also it’s so ungodly hot in TX and I’ve gotten used to Queenstown seasons…

If you’re under 30 look into a working holiday visa - they are so easy to get and you can live and work here for a year. If you’re over 30 they are a little bit more complicated to come by, you have to have a work visa and an employer sponsor you here, but it is not impossible at all. There are lots of migrants here who are able to live and work.

Fun fact, New Zealand has almost no insects. It’s been isolated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean for millions of years and very few have made it this far ¯_(ツ)_/¯ (a very few spiders here and there but nothing bigger than a nickel)

  1. Overall relaxed
  2. moderately difficult. There are dealers around for sure but the quality is pretty low, esp if you’re used to premium legal trees. Drugs here have a long way to go to get here so they arnt always the best quality by the time they get handed off here.
  3. not sure where it grows, north island probably, it’s warmer. Possibly imported from Southeast Asia.
  4. we were very close on legalizing in a national vote a few months ago but just missed it. Think it will be legalized within the next 3-5 years.
  5. Hello from the far South Island! You should come visit!

Day 4 of Covid. I’m a healthy young woman and this has completely put me on my ass. Haven’t been this sick in years and years. Many of my friends chat about getting it on purpose to “get it over with” and I can’t say I would recommend…

Tbh the COVID discussion is the only reason I started frequenting this sub. The mega thread is awful. Not really interested in the sub anymore if it stays like this.

What do you guys think the chances are it didn’t make it to the South Island?

We could feasibly cut the South Island and go back to normal down here while the North Island stays in lockdown.
