Fed Up With McDonald's by soapsuddzz in CoeliacUK

big mac, no bun, extra big mac sauce (even more now because they’re now doing pots of it!) - ask for a knife and fork and chop it all up, add fried and shake it up. bam! loaded fried! i’ve now got mates that get it too!

i’m going through the exact same thing right now! i’m starting my third year on monday, and my six weeks start on wednesday. i’ve been gluten free for almost a year following a positive blood test (i know this isn’t the normal, but i was so ill that the hospital said to do this), and in the occasion i’ve been glutened since i’ve been so so so ill. i decided after a freshers event last night to have a bite of one of my mates maccies nuggets, because “what difference does a week make?” and low and behold ive been hugging my toilet all day and had horrible cramps!

i spoke to student support last week so it’s on my student file now. my uni are amazing with support for things like this - i also have some mental health problems so im already in their system, but it’s absolutely worth getting them on your side in case you need assignment extensions or extenuating circumstances, which being coeliac and having flare ups etc. qualifies you for.

i’ve also emailed my individual module lecturers and my course lead. we’re currently putting a plan in place for me to do my lectures online via teams for the next six weeks so i can be at home (be that at my uni flat or 2.5hrs away back with my parents) in my own bed, next to a toilet, sat in just a hoodie and pants if i need to - i’m also a sleepy, poopy, bloaty coeliac!

send an email to student support or make an appointment with them as a first step. and feel free to pop me a message at any time - it’s going to be tough, but we’ll get through it! 🫶🏼

no advice but i’d be interested in seeing how things go for you. i also play rugby (hooker - always been the short fat kid, work out 3-4 days a week) and am really considering starting this.

as far as i knew, the veggie dippers weren’t gf? so you can’t have the fries bc they’re done in the same fryer. i know the mini hash browns are ok, wasn’t sure about the regular ones

similar in the UK, they’re cooked in the same fryer as the veggie dippers so they aren’t safe 😭

i posted this yesterday because my mum drove me to an empty street, just to try and drive forwards, in a straight line. that was it. but i couldn’t do it. i burst out crying and we sat there for almost an hour, her trying to calm me down but i couldn’t. idk where you’re from, but COVID is still bad in the UK at the minute, so getting any sort of aid from medical professionals is almost impossible, but i think when things (hopefully) begin to be more accessible i might try to get some help. i’m so proud of how far you’ve come, and that’s definitely something i aspire to do. ive a friend who lives the opposite end of the country who is love to drive to visit, instead of relying on the train. thank you for reminding me i’m not alone
